  • Friendly: QPR 2-6 SPURS XI

QUEENS PARK RANGERS 2-6 SPURS XI

Our Spurs XI team ran out 6-2 winners against QPR in blustery conditions at Rangers' Harlington Training Ground on Tuesday afternoon.

Our starting line-up included a return to action from injury for David Button, who is currently on loan with Leyton Orient.

The goalkeeper was in fine form as well and capped his display with a late penalty save.

QPR fielded some experienced players in their starting XI with DJ Campbell, Fitz Hall, Akos Buzacky and Jason Puncheon all included.

It was Tim Sherwood’s team that took the early initiative and almost gained the lead in the second minute as Simon Dawkins found the back of the net, only to be denied by the linesman's flag.

However it wasn’t long before Dawkins was able to open the scoring as he found himself through on goal in the ninth minute after some neat footwork from Cristian Ceballos. Dawkins showed great composure to lift the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper to give us the lead.

Despite the early dominance our lead was only intact for three minutes as, against the run of play, QPR equalised after they were quickest to react after Button had saved smartly from a close-range effort.

Lifted by the goal, QPR then went close to taking the lead as DJ Campbell saw his strike creep inches wide of the right-hand post.

However our lads then started to dominate proceedings once again as John Bostock, Cameron Lancaster and Souleymane Coulibaly all went close.

We were able to go into the break with a two goal advantage as Ryan Mason, excellent throughout, scored back-to-back goals in the moments leading up to half-time.

His first came after some fine work from Ceballos down the right-hand side as he danced around QPR’s defence before cutting the ball back for Mason to finish from six yards.

Ceballos was also the provider for our third goal as he showed great vision to spot the late run of Mason in the penalty area.

Conditions worsened in the second half and Akos Buzacky almost made use of the strong winds as his free-kick from the left-hand side in the 47th minute almost nestled in the bottom corner.

QPR continued to press and had it not have been for a flying save from Button they would have found a route back into the game. Buzacky then tested Button once again from a set-piece but he was equal to everything that was thrown at him.

There was nothing that Button could do to deny QPR from scoring their second goal as Jake Nicholson was adjudged to have committed a foul in the penalty area and Buzacky found the top right-hand corner from the resulting spot-kick.

Our lads reacted to QPR’s persistence and created numerous chances before Cameron Lancaster restored the two-goal advantage in 65th minute with a precise finish from the edge of the penalty area.

The lads continued to threaten the QPR goal before Ceballos grabbed a well-deserved goal, slotting home from 10 yards to make the score 5-2.

The youngsters could have scored many more in the final 10 minutes and eventually found their sixth goal of the game as substitute Kudus Oyenuga smashed a left-footed strike into the roof of the net.

There was still time for Button to cap his return by denying QPR a consolation goal from the penalty spot.

    Spurs (3-5-2):

    Button

    Nicholson - Veljkovic - Bongani

    Barthram (Sheriff, 64) - Bostock - Mason - Dawkins - Ceballos

    Coulibaly (Oyenuga, 68) - Lancaster

I know it's not our first team but we lost 6-2 to what is to me an unknown side. Shame but we have come along way in a short time
    Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
    And many more mistakes

LES FERDINAND, IT'S TIME TO GO

John Bostock came to us from Crystal Palace a few years ago, but he's yet to really step-up to our first tram squad.

Bongani Khumalo came to us from SuperSport United in South Africa a year ago and has been loaned-out to Preston North End.

He's a full international and scored in the last World Cup Finals against France.

Souleymane Coulibaly is a youngster who scored 9 goals in 4 games in the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup for the Ivory Coast.

Ryan Mason has been getting League Football experience at several clubs out on loan.

Other than that, I'm not surprised you haven't heard of the other Spurs players, as they're mostly our Academy kids.

4 of whom are just coming back from injury, plus one who hasn't played more than about 20 minutes for the first team (JP) and Buzz who, from the reports floating around, seemed to have more input than anyone else.
Let's try and make a positive from this rather than a negative, 3 of our 25 man squad successfully came through a friendly on the way back to fitness and Dyer (hopefully) finally convinced Warnock that he needs replacing in the 25 man squad in January.

Terribly sorry BlueHoop for forgetting to put my rose tinted glasses on for this.

                Lets look at this.

6 of the 11 are in our PL 25. Okay so a few were coming back from injury, but I fail to see what JP having played very little for the first team has to do with it, if he is good enough for the 25 he should be good enough for this.

2 trialists, no comment, though one did manage to score.

1 Player who I struggle to see why he was ever given an extension, though perhaps that had more to do with our previous owners trying to suck up to the fans.

                And 2 kids.

Let's not forget that we were basically playing a Spuds youth 11 and we got hammered.

Does make me worry about our strength in depth.

                Roll on January.

So let's hold the front page
We do not have strength in depth, we don't even have strength on the first team bench, we all know that already.

Maybe Warnock saw something in one o two of their youngsters to make him bring them across town. Not as a first team player yet, but maybe a fringe player as if decent would have far more chance of breaking into our team than the Spurs side which they are probably nowhere near close to......

                            Its all a ploy....
If we were sweeping all before us in every game, how would Sir Neil back up requests for more money and players?? He's cunningly putting out weak sides to get beaten and thus persuade TF to open his wallet.......I hope!!
2011-2013, 2 seasons in the Premiership, 76 games, 14 wins........two years of my life I'll never get back!!

2013/2014 mediocrity topped off with a win at Wembley....

2014/2015 was pretty much the same as 2011-2013.....

                            2015/2016, average at best.....

                            2016/2017, same old, same old....

                            2017/2018, aim low, avoid disappointment!

Its the hope that kills you!
