  • Who would you like Neil to sign in January?

We clearly need more strength in depth and some better players.

I think we need 3/4 more players to ensure we finish comfortably.

Alex will almost certainly leave Chelsea and I think we'd be a good move for him. He wouldn't need to move his family and we need a better CB if someone gets injured. He's comfortably better than Gabbidon.

Pavlyuchenko & Anelka have both been mentioned on here before. I'd say I'd prefer Pav due to his age (2 years younger than Anelka). Although I'm not too sure how much he'd cost seeing as Harry likes to sell players he doesnt want for a lot of money to cover his tracks.

Wouldn't mind Frimpong on loan. Need a strong and fit midfielder to cover injuries.

Alex, Pavlychenko and Frimpong (loan) would all be quality signings. To add to them I would like a LB so Traore can start playing left mid but nobody like Wayne Bridge who I've never really rated and another utility defender like Onouha. Players I don't want us to sign are boys like Andy Johnson who has only scored about 20 goals in four years and is very injury prone. We need to get rid of players like Puncheon and Dyer as they've not really played, we may as well of had a 23 man squad.

On the Alex and Anelka situation, I can't see Chelsea dealing with us after the latest row.

Ephraim really would of been annoyed then!

Answer to who I want signed, Andy Johnson, Bassong and anyone else is a real bonus from then on
        Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
        And many more mistakes

CB, LB (in order to allow Traore to play LM) and Striker need to be bought. Anything else is a bonus for me.

I, personally, would rather use our budget (whatever that may be) to get in 3 quality players in the above mentioned positions than lesser quality spread around more. Quality over quantity and all that!

Onouha, Bassong & Pav/Defoe would be absolute perfect IMO.

          Kenny
          Young Anton Bassong Onouha
          SWP Faurlin Barton Traore
          Pav/Defoe DJ/Heidur/Bothroyd

          Is a quality side!

I'm not going to get my hopes up too much with names like Defoe and then be all down beat when we get in a "lesser" name that is still an improvement on what we have, but with our owners I'm not ruling anything whatsoever out. Who would have imagined SWP & Barton would have signed for us at the start of the year? Certainly not me thats for sure!

Alot of people saying Defoe wont come for 1 reason or another, but if Harry cant assure him 1st team football with the Euros coming up (and a strikers spot up for Grabs with Shrek's ban), I think he would be very much open to a move, even if a loan until end of season. And if so, surely we would be up there with the favourites to land him, what with being London based and all?

Also, Anelka is off to China on a mega-bucks deal to see his career out.

Can also see Alex off abroad.

Would be very confident of survival with those arrivals.

I think the Defoe, Anelka & Beckham stories have raised the bar with expectations among some fans about the signings in january. Not realistic.

Pavlychenko, Bassong, Onhua, Zamora and/or Andy Johnson seem far more realistic to me, but still very decent. So I'll go with those.

I wouldn't mind Nicky Maynard either, seeing how well Shane Long and Steve Morrison are doing after moves from The Championship, and Maynard was at least on a par with those over the last few seasons.

They shouldn't take the row into account. It's between the JT, AF & the police now. If found guilty then Chelsea will be embarrassed and would be bitter/wrong not to do business with us

As much as that makes sense and I agree, we all know thats not how the world works mate. If you have a grudge/dislike/ongoing dispute with somebody that wants to do business with you, and you can do that business with somebody else, you will.

I think the main signings are already in place...who ? don't know. The lesser signings if you call em that is still to be sorted imo.

I still reckon Gary Hooper's worth the punt ahead of Maynard if Defoe doesn't come, but then it's doubtful that he'd be available come January anyway. Liking the look of Jay Rodriguez at Burnley too, and Wilfred Zaha goes without saying.

When is DJ supposed to be coming back though? Not sure Andy Johnson (probably on a long and expensive contract) is the answer to anything unless things get drastic.

Onuoha (and Nat Clyne) can't play left back particularly well as far as I know unfortunately. Think Ashley Williams might still be on the radar if he hasn't signed his new contract yet.

We should probably ask about Steven Pienaar while we're down the Lane picking up Bassong and begging unsuccessfully for JD.

Above all we should be buying with one eye on the summer (recent results will only encourage short termism though) and hopefully with at least a basic awareness of what's available abroad.
