Warno has said other than Cook and Ephraim he doesn't expect any players to go out on loan before the deadline. Given that we have the likes of Shittu, Hulse, Agyman, that Norwegian midfielers whose name I can't even remember, as well as old lags such as Borrowdale and Vine, that is shocking.
Warno puts this down to Championship and lower league clubs not having the money, as Rangers expect a fee. But is he just saying that to cover the embarrassing fact that simply nobody wants them? I mean, getting them out on loan would at least get them fit and in the shop window and with Vine out of the way the canteen bill would probably plummet. Even if another club paid no fee and say 10% of Vine's wages, that's still a bit of money the club would have saved. Clubs seem to be loaning players from other clubs - perhaps the simple truth is that we have players on our books who aren't good enough for the fourth tier of English football. Players like Agyman couldnt cut it at Millwall - so send him to Rochdale.
I just don't understand the economics of paying a lot of people a lot of money to sit around doing nothing. With 25 man squads we couldn't even play them if we were desperate (and I'm talking sending other players out with broken legs rather than pick Pellicori). All they are doing is taking up the time of the coaching staff and, perhaps, in the case of people like Vine (I'm only guessing here) showing his bad attitude to the younger players.
When you look at just how poor the periphery of our squad is it is even more of an achievement by Neil to have got us promoted. But now, I would have thought, is the time for Beard or Fernandes to be tough with Warno and say he has to ship this deadwood out on loan - and if that means sending Rowan Vine to Tonbridge Angels to sit on their bench, so be it. It might even be the wake up call he needs.
