I agree with you, my first draft I had put in the exception of big clubs. I took it out as I thought the debate might get side-tracked on which club constitutes this exclusive group, I would put it now at both Manchester clubs and maybe Liverpool.
Players will go to Liverpool and utd for the history and world recognition of clubs and city for money. Arsenal seem to recently be losing out on transfer targets. Spurs are really not in the same league as the others.
But unless these three come in for you, I think players for the reason in my previous post are likely to stay with us.
Main reason players move clubs is same reason most of us move jobs that's money. My view is that wages aren't a problem for us, SWP and JB could have gone to any club, they came to us not by sentiment but because we paid the biggest wages. If you see recent media reports, nearly all say when we target a player we can meet their pay demands unlike other " bigger" clubs.
I remember when sir les was at the centre of transfer activity I think we sold players to try to keep him with us. At the end I think we couldn't go above £8k pw when the toon offered him £20k. I think that's less likely to happen now under our current owners.
95% of transfers must be motivated by increase in wages, that's why bent moved from Sunderland to villa and doubled his wages at the same time.
I just think that threat has now been minimised of our best players leaving, granted man u, Liverpool or city make a move on AF or an equivalent big European team then he may be persuaded to go but I think we're in the strongest position we've ever been to keep our best players.

Hulse turned down Chelski because they weren't ambitious and big enough for him :pleasantsuprise:

Why would Faurlin leave now after staying for the last 2 years?

The club has been through absolute turmoil during his time here and he kept performing. Why now when things are going good would he up and leave? Especially to move to a different country or warm the bench at Spurs.

Ale Faurlin will be with us for the rest of this season and will be there for our first game in the Premiership next season!
