The Old Football Special
I remember going up to Liverpool just about at the start of the season 25 yeras or so ago, we were actually top of the league at that point I think. They did a football special from Euston station with no advanced tickets and the tickets at Anfield were pay on the day as well!!. Anyway, me and my mates missed the football special and had to get the next train with about 300-500 of QPR's finest. Got to the station and had a police escort from Lime Street all the way to Anfield. They were stopping all the traffic, kids were chucking stones at us, I was only 15 yrs so it was pretty mental. Got to the ground 15 minutes late and I think we lost about 4-0 and John Barnes scored the goal of the season. There were loads of us up there, all crammed in on the terracing in the corner of the stand. Happy days

Right just had a text off a pal he says the following;
If you take London Midland services ONLY four people can travel for £16.50 each group saver off peak day return.
A bit longer than your conventional route but a LOT cheaper.
As you can only take London Midland services & not LM / Virgin combined the train that will get you there is;
Leaving London Euston @ 10:46
Arrive Stafford @ 12:53
Leave Stafford @ 13:09
Arrive Liverpool Lime Street @ 14:10.
Obviously need to get straight to the ground but as I say will save plenty of pennies for a lot of folk.
Coming home;
Depart Liverpool Lime St @ 18:34
Arrive Birmingham New Street @ 20:17
Depart Birmingham New Street @ 20:53
Arrive London Euston @ 23:27
Obviously a long old day but for £16:50 its cheap as chips & as other prices are looking around the £70 mark the saving pays for your match ticket.
Still debating but hope this helps.

If anyone's interested, just booked Jury's Inn for 2 nights (Fri/Sat), including breakfast and a first night dinner for me and the wife for £164 all in.
Haven't told her it's her Birthday Present yet.(Plus a match ticket of course, I'm not tight)
