Is losing a striker who's return is 1 goal every 3.5 games worth getting your knickers in a twist ?

Benny - JM & JG have looked at him and have decided he can go, as they have better options. To be fair, his stats are terrible and confirm he is a league 1 player, as in his Championship, he has made 139 starts + 42 appearances as a sub and his return is 50 goals which is a shocking return.
The management have had a look at him have they? And when would they have done that?

Blackstock had 45mins at Aldershot, and scored a goal. That, plus a couple of low key training sessions is all they would have seen of Blackstock.

This is a decision that seems to have been made by the Directors, rather than the Management.

And by the sounds of it, we'll be relying on the "prolific" partnership of Dave/Heidi and some dodgy Italian to bag the goals this season.

Captain Clunge I don't know if you have ever played football but I'm sure they realised after a couple of training sessions that Dexter has the touch of a rapist.
He has never played in the premier and he is a very average championship striker.
If we are looking for playoffs then we need to aim higher.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

It is when he's our only goal threat Paul.
As I've said many a time...unless we replace him with someone who can score, It's a HUGE mistake letting him go.
I have no problem with his departure whatsoever as long as we replace him.

So far, that has not happened and until then, I will not be happy.

The fact that you and others seem comfortable with this is what shocks me as I cannot see where the goals will come from. Maybe you can?

Again...you're missing the point and in a way contradicting yourself...

'If we are looking for playoffs then we need to aim higher'

So offloading your top scorer and only striker capable of over 10 in a season is ambitious?

            Really?

Benny - apart from a goal ratio of 1 goal in every 3.5 games, what else does Dexter offer / do for the team ?

I'm not overly bothered if he stays or not, so long as we sign not one, but two decent goal scorers.

Vine, Heider and Aggy are too similar in the respect that they are very able footballers (albeit the latter is more of a headless chicken) and neither can score many.

Paul, that's not the point IMO.
                    His goals are vital.
                    Any goals are vital.
Other than him, we really didn't score many, hence the fact we were the lowest scorers in the league?

Blackstock needs two things....service and confidence. When Cook was fit and providing decent crosses, DB flourished. When we had no competent wingers and he played up front on his own, he looked ordinary.

As for aiming higher? Who would you have in mind?

Benny - That is the exact point and probally why JM and JG are willing to let him go. If our season hinges on keeping a player who might score a goal every 3.5 games, we are screwed.

He does not move for the ball, does not make intelligent runs, does not create, has to be the focal point of everry attack otherwise he looks lost. He needs to be fed a constant supply of crosses which he'll get to 1 in 4. By having to play direct football all the time to play to Blackstocks strengths I feel it stifles those around him who will prefer the ball at there feet.

More often than not Blackstocks goals will come against lesser opposition for me he definately is no big game player. Put him up against a strong defence and he gets found out, he may have been our top goalscorer in recent seasons but 14 goals in a 46 game season + cup games is no great return.

The fact remains we will not be a weaker squad without him which kinda sums up why he was loaned out in the first place. So there you have I have answered your insulting response directly, justified my opinion and not had to use 100 emoticon smiley faces like young Morris who is clearly a very excitable chap. Whether you agree with me or not its irrelevant because from what I've seen I seem to share the same opinion as many others across the message boards so there must be a lot of us talking out of our backsides.

For me Blackstock has to be the most frustrating player to wear the blue and white hoops I can remember and that is why he divides opinion so much.
AGREED! Spot on W12 spot on!

Benny I missed your earlier post.

JM hopefully wil replace Dexter with Vine, so there is your replacement.

He is just as likely to score 10 goals like Dexter BUT he is stronger, so he closes defenders down more, he can hold the ball up superbly and if needed, could play the 1 up front role better than anyone else in the team. He has a fantastic football brain and brings others into play, he never gives up, he is always sniffing the next opportunity.

Vine on the right instead of Routledge does not make sense
Vine on the left instead of Hogan, Cook or Faulin does not make sense.
Vine in the middle ahead of Buzz, Rowlands, Faulin or Legs does not make sense
Vine up front instead of Dexter.............. makes sense.
