Fair enough people don't want him in the team at the moment - but those who say "it was obvious all along" that he was never right for us have very short memories - do you think we would even be playing Man City in the Prem League without his 18 odd goals and similar number of assists last season? Wd a team full of Shaun Derry's got us up without the genius he gave us? Why do people on message boards have to be so hysterical? Yes he has some big bad points but don't ignore the good points.

He needed to mature and grow up to handle the premiership and everything that goes with it

Personally I think there were signs that he had done a bit of that on the pitch and it would have helped if one of those shots against bolton or wigan had gone in of the post. He doesnt seem to have matured off the pitch and that was always going to spell trouble with new players coming in with higher profiles and premiership experience

I dont think he should be written of though the talent is certainly there just needs a personality transplant or maybe all thats needed is to seperate him from his current agent/advisers.hangers on
its New Era number 8 i tell thee, bring on the fireworks

That's been evident since the summer when we actually signed him permanently from Spurs.
Don't know who his agent is, but I get the feeling there's someone with an even bigger sense of self-importance than Taarabt, out to make money for themselves, who has done Adel no favours at all and constantly unsettled him.
Not unlike a lot of agents, I suppose, but this one will be losing commission daily from Taarabt if he doesn't belt up and start guiding him properly.
Faurlin is my hero!!! Love him!!! #########

1st they moaned about him diving, he does that less now.
2nd they moaned about him not passing enough, or to Buzz in particular (v Barnsley ?), which he does too much now it seems.
Then they moaned about his histrionics and wanting to be subbed when it wasn't going well for him, which he doesn't do so much now.
Next they moaned about his careless quotes, ignoring the fact English is not his 1st language and most originated from his Agent.
They moaned about him being made Captain when it was clear to all that Derry did all that except in name.
And wanting to play for @rse, or Barca or Real Madrid. Other than Seaman in 30+ years who else did we have that considered that ?

Apparently, we'd have been promoted without him last year, and now he's sh!t and passes to much and can't score or create Jack, despite decent performances v Undefeated Newcastle, Villa & Chelsea.

ALL OF THE ABOVE COMPLAINTS ARE VALID AT THE TIME THEY WERE MADE, but we've moved on. We're in a better division, the best in the World, he has improved, changed his game.
He's young, but low on confidence, lost the Captaincy to someone who takes swipes at him ( with good reason if you turn up for training looking like a Telly Tubby).

Perhaps he should be cut some slack and give both NW and him some credit where it's due and support when it's needed.
            He's a valuable squad member.

2 reasons why he is struggling.

              1. The pace of the Premiership. It is widely known that the quality is much higher in the Premier league and the speed of play particularly in the attacking areas of the pitch is much higher. Adel does not have pace, and also likes to slow the game down and manipulate the ball. This is ok in the championship as the defenders tend to big immobile types chosen for their ability in the air rather then the ground, and he can show his ability. In the Prem the defenders are fast, mobile and therefore much harder to get away from, he may beat them with skill but they can get back to him with their pace. The likes of Nani/Ronaldo etc have the skill but also the pace to get away from defenders, therefore defenders stand off to not commit allowing them time for their tricks.

              2. Mentally he is no longer the big fish in the small pond. Captain's armband - removed. Team talks - now probably focus on SWP and Barton. Adel is just another player. Before the team talk would be - defend well in our own half, when attacking give the ball to Adel. Simple.

I think its a shame really as he is such a talented player. I think he would be much more suited to the game in Italy where the pace of the game is slower. The problem for us is before the season started he may have been worth 12m, but now I'm afraid, his value has probably halved at best.

The problem for Adel is not the defending or tracking back, as far as ive seen he has put in a lot more effort that someone like Van de Vaart. The problem has been his passing and ball retention. He has given the ball away far too much and for me it seems like he is not fully focussed for whatever reason.

If he can get back to playing like he did against Newcastle then he can be the star for this team again.

To early to write off Adel yet, but the way I
Look at it, taking Saturday's game as an example and swopping him with another player couldnt see him Improving the performance what so ever. Take any one of the front six out and we wouldn't have been half as good.
Maybe needs to come on as an impact sub against lesser teams just to build his confidence back up but don't think he has the patience or maturity to keep warming the bench. Let's hope I'm wrong.

Stain, I'm sorry mate but it was obvious all along. Nothing to do with his talent, as even I thought he'd be better in the Prem than this. It's to do with his attitude. Anyone who couldn't see that must be blind. At risk of sounding like a broken record, I'd like to see him fulfil his potential, but he thinks he's so much bigger than the club that it'll never happen with us.

Benny you at least are being sensible about him.

All I'd say in reply is Rodney Marsh, Stan Bowles, Simon Stainrod, even Sir Les at different times thought they were too big for the club and wanted away, had their head turned by advisers, etc. And, arguably, they were right. Didn't mean we didn't get several very good years out of them and many other arrogant little so and sos. We knew he was a pain in the back side with attitude issues -if he weren't, we would never have been able to sign him.

I fully accept all the anti-Adel people were right and people like me were wrong - we are now playing better without him. All I'm saying is a) certain posters (not you) should not show themselves up by saying "he's s**t" etc and completely forget all he has done for this club and b) they shouldn't rule out the possibility that Sir Neil can turn him round - after playing soft cop with him it now sounds as if Neil is going for the hard cop approach. Neil has turned him round once in a way that lots of people said was impossible, he might just do it again. If it doesn't work, fair enough, he will have to go but its only a couple of weeks ago when fans were wondering if he had turned the corner after his decent performance against Chelsea. Short memories.

He basically said after jay was dropped he didn't train well. He went to see NW as to how he could get back in the team, and was told more was needed in training, And as NW put it "the penny dropped" and he's back in contention

Jay has reacted exactly how I wish all footballers would to ebing dropepd; working his nuts off and putting in performacnes when he gets the opportunity that make it hard for the gaffer to drop him again. He hasnt had a stroppy and moaned, hes just got on with it and its paying dividends.

I understand that he did have a "stroppy" initially - something that didn't go down well with NW and the senior pros. But then he manned up.

                                Fair play to him.
