  • We must play 4-4-2 tomorrow and Taarabt needs to start....

After anger at Taarabt's Spurs performance and the resulting outburst on here I have have time to ponder my thoughts and this my conclusion.

You have to pick your best team, no more free role for Taarabt play him down the left and right swapping wings with SWP with 2 lumps in Helguson and Bothroyd up top, Barton and Faurlin in the middle.

    -----------------Kenny----------------------

    Young---Gabbidon---Ferdinand------Traore

    SWP------Faurlin-------Barton------Taarabt

    ------The Boff-------------Helguson---------

Far from a certainty as we played infinitely better last week when he came off. Mackie may get the nod becasue he chased and caused problems for Spurs last week and on anohter day we may have got something out of it.

...Adel needs to start....warming the bench.

I don't think we'll show much strength if he starts the game. by all means, bring him on with 60/70 to go. he can mix it up. if we're still in the game he can be vital for us.

IMO - not to start, think there'll be too much pressure.

Granted....argument is how would we perform with Taarabt in a 4-4-2 out on the wing. Mackie can chase all he wants but at this level he is not capable at unlocking defences.

Yep I would go with start apart from putting Faurlin on the left of midfield as he does not have a right foot

Might as well start him and take him off before HT then as the game could be long over by that point.

Have to agree. I really love Adel but his head's not right ATM. He needs to be relieved of his role for a short while because it is unsettling for the team.

he's not won us any games so far this season, don't know why and how it'll be different against city.

With 2 up top and Taarabt out wide there is far greater chance of him assisting a goal than the likes of Smith, Buzsaky, Mackie.

I'm furious with some off his antics and performances over the past month but IMO on his day he is a phenomenal player who needs to play against the best to improve.

I do agree W12 in principle, though I really think Neil will start Bothroyd and Mackie after their performances against Spurs and also the team performance, and Bothroyd does deserve to start after his performance definately.

Mackie will chase lost causes and put them under pressure, but against City we need that extra touch of class to unlock them. As the match approaches I'm more and more reluctant to see Taarabt sat on the bench.

Nah drop him completely. Looks to me like he is playing to not get hurt as a move i think is already sorted. He not even trying to beat players and looks like he dont give a t o ss

Sorry mate that's a ridiculous and unsubstantiated statement to make

You say Taraabt can unlock a defense, yes on his day i'd agree of course, but nobody can deny that of late, especially last week he couldn't even find a team mate with a simple pass let alone unlock anything. He then gets frustrated and has even less interest in putting in a shift. He constantly gifted possession which we can't afford against the likes of City, likewise we can't afford to carry anyone as was the case in the 1st half against Spurs.

Don't get me wrong i would love him to start to show what he's capable of, but he is in a bad run at the moment and if a lesser team i'd be more inclined to persevere in the hope it would click for him, but don't see us being able to risk it against a top side.

Also, against a team like City we may not see the ball for long periods, which is why i think Mackie could be more immportant by forcing the odd error here and there which may then lead to us getting some possession rather than others that may stand off and admire their passing.
