At no point did he suggest it was not bad. To be fair to him, neither did he even give the impression that he thought it was in any way acceptable.

All he actually said was that despite the obvious connection, the chants themselves would never be held up as being racist. Which of course they won't.
My 'misinterpretation' was derieved from where Paul referred to the incident as 'a tad naughty', even after the club itself had released a statement condemning the chanting. I think it constitutes a little more than just 'a tad naughty' and can be percieved as making light of the incident- therefore implying it was not bad.

Anyway, this whole threads pretty boring now to be honest, I was just trying to highlight how low the Chelseas fans had sunk.

Last time just in case you can't read:

"The fans chanting last night have multiplied the problem for Terry, ABC and Chelsea FC by a factor of 100's.

The FA and wider world will now see this as a club problem, as Terry has made statement after statement saying he didnt when he did, ABC has stuck by Terry, even dedicating the win at Everton last week to him and now the fans chanting "you know what you are". Chelsea will have to look tough on this now and that means sacking Terry and banning some of the 1,100 fans."

There were no actually racist words sung but the INTENTION was clearly to cause racist offence. Chelsea know that and suspect the authorities will too. Can't see Chelsea getting off this scot-free.

              Absolutely.

And if there was no 'hint' of racism then no need for Kick It Out to make any statements condemning them...oh...wait...

              ...they did!!!

I'm surprised ABC didn't strike Terry with a "poison arrow" but he probably only has "the look of love" for him. :pleasantsuprise:

Agreed. There was clearly more than a hint, which is of course deplorable. All I was saying was that Paul wasn't defending Chelsea fans against racism, but rather stating that the fans will not receive any punishment.

Heard a member of a Brighton supporters group on a radio show last night complaining about how they have to suffer "Homophobic Chants" EVERY WEEK. I thought the whole discussion was very amusing, but it just goes to show that in some cases, what is intended in good humour can be taken very differently if you are sensitive to a particular subject.

Homophobic chants? What's that all about then
No one is singing about homophobia, they are just pointing out to the Seagulls that they are all a bit ginger beer - nothing about it suggests a fear of the fact

Some one posted that the heard West Ham fans singing 'we can see you holding hands' at the game last week, which was funny.

Bluehoop, I agree. Clearly not "homophobic" as such, just light hearted fun I would imagine.

Paul, you would have liked: "Stand up, cos you can't sit down" then.
