One or two observations from the Blackburn Rovers game, we still defend too deeply and when we breakaway we don't get enough players in the opposing penalty area. That game was winnable, but at no time did we look like winning and that has to be a worry against a far better team of players this Sunday. Too many times Mackie or Helguson would be isolated with no-one to pass and only briefly in the second half did Shaun Derry twice get into the penalty area. The game was boring to watch and I just left the game feeling the team spirit was not as strong as we first thought, bearing in the mind the real show of unity the lads showed against Newcastle and Wolves.
This Sunday is what many fans looked out for first, when the fixtures were released back in July. We have waited far too long to play our bitter rivals at home, even though we've played two cup games against them in recent years. In that time we have seen an upturn in fortunes for them plus a real struggle on our part to get back involved with the world elite of football. In that 15 years we have seen how much SKY in my opinion have damaged football whilst having pumped millions into the game, its clearly not a level playing field anymore and probably won;t change in my lifetime. Long gone are the days where this fixture was played on merit with even team selections making the games really worth watching. Now it has become a David V Goliath exercise where fans of our club can but dream to break the mould for one weekend and beat a team that many including me feel distain towards.
All around the park they have players far better and far more experienced at this level. It is a situation that has been bought and suddenly you see Chelsea fans springing up from everywhere, that simply were not to be seen when they were struggling against the likes of AFC Wimbledon and Covenrty City> that to me is what I dislike about Chelsea FC and its supporters. To suggest they are steeped in any kind of history is laughable and they are only where they are now because a multi millionaire Russian decided to throw money at the club, in his pursuit of being European Champions. Something, which I might add is not likely to happen at least for the next 10 years.
We as a club are slowly learning all about the Premiership and the next 5-6 fixtures could leave us wondering whether the celebration of last years promotion was actually worth it. This game on paper leads to one result, but thankfully many games are not played on paper. Do we have the players who can cause an upset? We will need to be at our very best, something we have not been in recent weeks and Chelsea will need to have some kind of hangover from the European game in midweek, which seems unlikely bearing in mind the result against Genk.
What every QPR fans wants to see this SUnday, is every player offer blood, sweat and tears. Not the best termnology, but in a nutshell some fight and determination. If we lose the game and every player has played to the best of their abilities than I doubt any QPR fan will be moaning afterwards. We were after all bitterly disappointed about the Newcastle united result, but thats because we played with vigour and a swagger that truely deserved 3 points. We seemed to play with a freedom that brought the best out of every player, something that I feel we have lacked in recent games.
All eyes will be on us this Sunday around the globe and its vitally important that we are neither embarrassed or get accused of simply not turning up. We have some good household name players who have the opportunity to shine
The crowd will be fully behind the lads this Sunday and no-one will be under any illusions how difficult getting a result will be. I would just like to say to every player who puts on that blue and white hooped shirt this Sunday, that this game means more to us than you would ever be able to imagine. In all your footballing careers you would never have played in a game where it means so much to a set of supporters. One maybe even two of you this weekend, could become QPR legends simply playing one game of football. Thats how much it means this game to every QPR supporter around the world.
