After watching City and Utd playing in Europe tonight (flicking between the two) and other teams who like to play football recently, I think back to the game on Sat and there was an awful lot of Hoof Ball from us....
This isn't the first time either there were plenty of games last season where we hoofed it up-field aimlessly...
When I think back to the first halves of the Newcastle and Villa games there was some tremendous phases of slick passing but, when things don't seem to go our way we far too quickly revert to booting it up in the air... Long ball and rough house football has always been attached to NW throughout his career and I don't know about anyone else but I am starting to wonder if last Saturday's dismal fare is going to be a regular feature and something we are going to have to become accustomed to.
I am seriously starting to wonder whether NW has it in him to ditch the dross of the hoof ball tactic when the going gets tough and wonder whether someone like Nigel Adkins might be a better long term bet if and when we secure our PL status...
I know there will be lots on here thinking that it is sacrilege even thinking post Warnock but I am also starting to wonder whether he is also making too many PR gaffs and causing internal strife. I remember when Ian Holloway was the joker in the pack. For the majority of his tenure we played sh1te football but all the time it was winning football he got away with it. When the results dried up and the football was still awful his jokes wore far too thin and he was shown the door...I'm wondering whether NW is heading in the same direction?
Lets be realistic if, as feared we don't get many points from the next 5 or 6 games and we are near the bottom then the pressure will be on..
Adkins is unproven at this level granted but, the style of football his teams play get the juices flowing... get Hooper in come Jan and the two would be reunited...
Having said this, NW could make us go on an incredible unbeaten run and or Adkins wouldn't want to leave the Saints who probably have far more potential than we did prior to the arrival of TF....
Add to the mix extra funds and identified transfer targets come Jan and all of the above could be rendered OTT piffle...
I do however return to my original point of the rubbish football that we play under NW which is far too regularly for my liking... it is starting to worry me!
Here's hoping for a miracle this Sun but fear the worst TBH....
