Would you keep it the same.... John Terry needs to be given a hard day. He maybe a weapon but he is a very good centre half and will clear our hoofballs all day. Really think we need to attack them. I'm
Sorry to say this but I think against the better sides Derry is a waste. Makes no difference how many holding players we play. I'd go for iceman and mackie again or bothroyd and mackie. Need some pace up top. Get swp to hug the wing and get some balls in the box... 1 0 rangers... Anton 83rd min

Good post Mellow. I, personally, would consider a 4-4-1-1 of:

    Kenny
Young Ferdinand Connolly (if Gabs not fit) Traore
    SWP Barton Faurlin Mackie
    Adel
    Heidur

I know Heidur isnt naturally the most talented player in the world but he does a very good job up there and holding the ball up and he wins an awful lot of free kicks (Kevin Davies style player!). With him holding the ball up or knocking it down for Adel sitting just behidn him, I think we could cause them a few problems.
As you say also Mellow, SWP (and Mackie IMO) need to hug the wings and get some balls in for Heidur to attack as we all know he is very good with his head.

I know I will get stick or suggesting Connolly but, IMO, a lot better than Fitz. The thought of Fitz trying to play against an on-coming Chelski attack worries me big time. Yes, the same thought about Conners doesnt exactly fill me with confidence but I do feel slightly better about him being there than Fitz, he is alot more composed than "Hoof it" Hall. Before his little confidence lapse last year, MC & KG were superb together. Albeit against CCC oppo I know, but still.

no matter what team is out there they're are going to have to play to their best ability. This will be our first real test against the big teams - it's a huge game. We're not exactly a physical team, so how can we get under their skin? We are at home after all, and should be expected to play as such.

Think their are players who can get under their skin. we have joey Barton who should be putting himself about.. Ali isn't shy of a tackle and HH is more then capable of getting up jt's cheating nose..

Mackie is not good enough for this level.

Helguson will not get a sniff against John Terry. Not a fan of the guy ( Terry ) but he is a class defender. If we play HH then we just end up having to pump it long and in the air and Terry will win everything.

Need to start Bothroyd - get balls into his feet/chest and let him bring Tarbs/Barton and SWP into play and run at them.

With HH and Mackie we created very little against an awful Blackburn team so how can people want these 2 to start against one of the best defences in the land? At least when Tarbs/Bothroyd play we create numerous chances ( Newcastle/Wolves/Villa ) so surely they have to play?

AGreed, not a bad arguement. Wouldnt mind Jay uptop tbf, Ive always stuck up for him and cant disagree when you say about the chances he created. Great link up player and, provided the 2nd wave of attack gets near enough to him for his knock downs, we could cause problems.

Jay Bothroyd should start this game as his role of hold the ball up will help waste more of Chelsea time and reduce their attacks. Him and Adel should try to get fouls near or inside the box.

1st thing they need to realise is what this game means to the fans.as they sure didn't understand what the Fulham game meant? with no home grown players, like when we used play them (Mc Donald & alike) I wonder if they'll treat it correctly.so if they cant be motivated to play Chelsea what chance have we got!
