  • DJ's boots

Neil blames DJ's boots for his foot injury and says footballers only have themselves to blame for putting fashion ahead of their own physical protection.

Does he make a good point, or was it more to deflect further criticism from himself....or both?

Well, I do think that there's a point in there somewhere. Boots these days are like slippers and appear to give zero protection to any part of the foot.

Certainly seems to have been an increase in broken metatarsals since the lightweight boots came in -- before Beckham, hardly any football fans knew what a metatarsal was.
Faurlin is my hero!!! Love him!!! #########

So purely for the sake of fashion we lose DJ for two months. You have to ask yourself if its really worth it.

I like Steve Gallens stance with the kids. They ALL have to wear proper boots and the only acceptable colour is black.

No flash "slippers" like some of the pros wear and certainly no frigging orange/blue/yellow/pink frigging things.

After recently having my 3rd rather large operation on my fooked ankle I think I have to agree with him. I blame Adidias Preditors for all the problems I've had, still keep buying a pair every year thou! No problems ever with Adidas Copa Mundial's and they're a lot cheaper...

Load of rubbish blaming boots. He wears the adidas f50s. Adidas F50 lead player is Messi, has he broke his foot. Has all the other 1000s of F50 players broke their foots.

I knew you'd chime in on here Chris.

So are you saying the F50s provide just as much foot protection as the more traditional boot?

It isn't the boots it is the way the pitches are now.

The pitches I used to play on were either rock hard or steeped in mud, and I didn't know of anyone breaking any bones because of it. It has to be the boots, they offer no protection.

You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.
