I was up bright and breezy yesterday morning as I took part in a photo shoot for the charity MIND which was over in Bromley. So coming back it was a rare experience for me to be training/tubing it to Loftus Road on my own these days. It took me back to the days when I was a teenager and would take myself off to QPR on the good old central line to White City when at the time we were in the old 1st division taking on the other so called big boys. I don't know about anyone else but on hearing us being called a Premier League team, it still sounds strange, and on getting off at White City this strange feeling continued as greeting the fans outside were blokes selling QPR scarves. Now that never used to happen when we were playing the likes of Chesterfield in the second division not so long ago!
As I made my way down South Africa Road I noticed familiar faces, but due to recent personal circumstances, I'm not currently in a sociable type frame of mind so I apologise if I appeared to ignore anyone that may be reading this. It wasn't intentional. What did amuse me was seeing Tony Fernandez outside by the Springbok talking to fans and having his photograph taken with them as he's quite the celeb at the moment. Let's just hope that after a few more potential 6-0 thrashings (hopefully not but I gulp every time I think of the next 3 games) his enthusiasm for the club doesn't wane.
Onto the game. Well, at least the result and performance was better than last week's 6-0, so that's a positive. I was also pleased that it was Heidar, as a QPR player, who scored our first goal at home in the Prem for 15 years (can't class Villa) as I thought it was a nice touch that it was a player that helped us to get up rather than one of the newbies. Jamie Mackie I thought had an excellent first half, as for a player that's had a long lay off with injury, he could not have shown any more enthusiasm, chasing lost balls and pressuring opponents etc. As others have said though it would have been good to have seen Puncheon come on for the last 20 minutes to shake things up, and it was a shame the game went rather flat midway towards both halves. I'm sure it wont be as flat next week and I'm already nervous just thinking about it.
Me and hubby have currently changed our seats where we're sitting in Ellerslie Road in X block. We like it there and it also gives an interesting outlook on the game from away supporters point of view too as obviously we're close to the away fans. Bless, there was one solitary Rovers fan up there yesterday who had his Kean Out banner on show every now and then, and to be fair to them, for a club at the wrong end of the table, they were a merry lot up there. Not so sure I'm looking forward to the Chelsea fans experience though next week.
There's a link below to some photos from yesterday for anyone that might be interested. Come on U Rrrrrsssssssssss
