Beckham and Jonson

Beckham is close to signing for PSG ( taking a leaf out of Joe Cole's book) and Andrew Johnson has been told he will be able to leave Fulham for £2m if he fails to agree to a new 2 yr deal,which as far as I know is 12 months more than he was offered a week ago.

Couldn't care less about Beckham. Wouldn't cut it in the Premiership anymore imho.

Great for global exposure etc etc & selling shirts but I'm more concerned about winning football matches.

Johnson looks good when fit, which is to few & far between these days. But at £2m could be the difference between staying up & going down so for that kind of wong could be worth a shout.

Tbf, I would like Beckham (purely commercial reaons) btu obviously he isnt going to be bossing PL games. IMO games would pass him by now.

As for Johnson; showed vs us he can still put the ball in the net. At £2mill well worth a shot. If he scored just 2 winningg goals for us, thats 4 points he would have gained us and in this league 4 points will go a long way to ensuring survival come the end of the year and could be the best £2mill ever spent!

Ref Beckham, you say you're more concerned with winning matches, but let's not forget the multi millions we'd make by using his name would help us improve the squad to win those matches. Also, i think he could certainly do a job on the pitch short term in quarter back type role in deep midfield and would dictate matches as most stuff would go through him. Think Wilkins. Also, we would hopefully develop a far east fan base as a result of Beckham which would continue to generate income for years to come, long after he's gone.

As for Johnson... not priority for me. We made his life far too easy last week and gifted him a hattrick, but his injury and goal scoring record since leaving Palace is not good. Everyone seems blinkered becasue he scored about 20 for Palace when they were in the prem, but i think 11, maybe more of them were pens, so a bit of a false tally tbh, and he's never lived up to it since.

Also, is he any better than DJ? They are very similar players and DJ was better last year in a weaker team, also is younger and less injury prone, yet sits on our bench. To play Johnson we'd really need to play a 442, and if we're going to do that then lets try DJ and Bothroyd together, which i think could work really well.

I think alot of fans (me included tbf!) are forgetting about Dj abit and how good a player he is. 13 PL goals last year wasnt it he got? Superb record. We need ot get him starting games IMO and he will score goals.

Yea good points lads.

I agree Del what your saying about £=better players but I think the whole Beckham thing is just a circus now whatever he does or wherever he goes. I'd personally like to concentrate on getting in the experience we need in January to ensure our survival ie; players who've been in a scrap before. No disrespect to Becks because he is a grafter but think we need different types of players than that. Seeing him in the hoops would be instant boner I can't lie.

And as for DJ I'd have him all day everyday over Johnson. Wish he'd get a run in the team I really do.
