    Not this.

A lone striker has a role to bring others in, but his primary role, as a striker, is still to be able to score goals. Especially when you get chances.

He is a decent player, but still not proven at the higher levels and he has not taken any of his chances so far.

I would have liked to see DJ come on a lot earlier as it clearly wasn't working in the early part of 2nd half where we conceded the initiative.

Not slating the player, but we do have options. We can't seem to score at home. Maybe we should change it for home games.

Bothroyd wins his share in the air, something I doubt DJ could do for obvious height reasons, but JB isn't a quick as DJ in the box so needs support which isn't there, especially when there are 7 defenders around.
We should play 4-4-2 at home, drop Faurlin or Derry and play both DJ and JB up front.
When was the last time we play 442?

There no way I want to see Faurlin or Derry drop just to keep Bothroyd in the team!

We should not change how we play which work for us, it Bothroyd that need to be drop and play DJ... have people forgotten swp nearly score and it was DJ who held the ball up when he came on and headed it to swp but the goalkeeper made a great save!

Neil never like 442 and nor do I

Start without Bothroyd up front and we will simply get over-run by better teams. Yes he's missed a few now - but we are talking one chance in a game - the miss against Newcastle has been overplayed as the ball was behind him, not in front so it wasn't the sitter some tell us. The header yesterday probs should have been on target but we have no other player that would have even won that ball.
Some seem to be greatly under estimating the work he does and without it/him we simply wouldn't have enough possession for the star men to do their thing.

Fact is yesterday, SWP had a quiet time, Barton was below par as were Faurlin and Derry - we lost the midfield battle for once and that is because Villa are a very hard working (and farkin dirty) team.

We wasted 5 or 6 truly fantastic dead ball positions and, of course, the ref was wearing a Villa shirt.

On a day where we were below par, against a strong and hardworking team with 12 players, from a goal and a man down, we got a point that will help keep the mood in the camp high.

So go on, start DJC against the Fools (I love him and think there should be a place for him) but to do it in place of Bothroyd would, in my view, ensure that we have no chance of putting the enemy under sufficient pressure to create another Wolves like result.

I think your missing the point mate. Its not changing formation to accomodate Jay, its changin formation to make us more thretaening going forward and to give us a better chance of scoring some goals at home.

I might see your point if we has played DJ in Jay role but he yet has the chance to play 90min to show what he can do! every time DJ came on in a straight swap he play well!

Yep i agree, we havent seen it and dont know if it'd work. Its merely a suggestionas to what we can do differently to score more goals at home thats all.

Dropping bothroyd that's all you want. How's it not working. Doubt you went to wolves and doubt you watch him off the ball. Our midfield is our weapon. Jb can drag opposite CBS out wide to let our midfield get forward and get the ball outside the box. Yea dj won a header but he couldnt do it for 90 mins.

When a team come to defend like Villa, they get many players behind the ball to stifle the attacking play, and it usually means JB has 3 or 4 defenders around him because he is the lone striker. Our midfield is then man for man with their midfield who are busy trying to cover the runs our players make to support JB. While this is going on, Agbonlahor as their lone striker is being watched by Shrek and One size, plus Derry and Faurlin are defensive minded as well, and it's frankly OTT. We just don't need that amount of cover at home against a defensive team, hence why we should leave out Derry or Faurlin, and play 2 up top at home against defensive teams.

Bothroyd is good for holding-up the ball so we need him to keep the score when we are winning. I would rather start with DJ till we are in a position to keep te score and then bring Bothroyd.

I agree with most of what you say but as I said before when was the last time we payed 442?

If the boss do not want to play 442 and keep playing as we are now then I rather Dj start.
