      We launched the ball towards him incredibly successfully throughout the game, his first touch was often good and he laid off the ball quickly. Obviously the poor finishing is focused on but there were definitely positives and we shouldnt feel bad about him starting for us.

          Shouldn`t wear his uggs in the box. But....great hold up play, good vision and passing. Being big makes u a bit slow sometimes. A lot of body that needs to be coordinated.

            He did miss a few chances and there is no doubt that he needs to score soon and the longer it goes on the worse it will be. However, for me it will happen and when he gets one he could score a good tally this season ie. Around 12 i- 15 goals. I've got confidence in him because he just looks a quality player. Maybe I'm biased because he plays for us but he has good control (always a sign of a good player in my opinion), great in the air, he's quick and he is getting in the positions to miss the chances. Hatrick on saturday...come on jay!!!

              what

              what i loved about the great gerry francis team was he had several players all trying to get those two striker positions

              ie,dennis bailey,les ferdinand,gary thompson,deven white,gary penrice etc etc etc

              so the next game lets give helgerson a start if he scores let him keep his position untill he under performs,then let us bring in dj campbell

                I just can't see any logic in changing the starting 11 after they played so well as a unit.

                Yes Bothroyd may have got a couple on another day, but he didn't play badly, he played very well and was integral in all that we did well as a unit.

                If he has a few bad games then fine, drop him, but he's not even had 1 bad game yet.

                Also for those who suggest strikers are there to be judged just on goals are either naive or plain stupid to dismiss other aspects of a strikers game, especially as it can be a role played very unselfishly for the good of the team. Mark Hughes was never prolific, yet he was arguably the best in the world at what he did and without his sacrifices, the likes of Giggs, Sharpe, Kanchelskis, McClair etc wouldn't have got as many goals as they did.

                It's almost as pointless as saying defenders should only be judged on clearances off the line they make and forget the rest.

                I respect everyone's opinion, and it's differences of opinion that make football great, but that's the way i see it for what it's worth....

                  From what I can see, no one is saying he had a bad game, he played well and should of scored a couple of goals, but he didn't, so it is pointless having one of the top goal scorers in the Premier League last season sitting on the bench twiddling his fingers. I'm sure people have forgotten he scored 13 goals last season.

                  Also, NW dropped defenders last season for making mistakes.

                    QPR were fantastic as a team on Saturday and Bothroyd again played very well at Wolves, he did absolutely nothing wrong, apart from not score for the 5th (2 as sub) game running, which is not a great stat for a goalscorer. Does Bothroyd start against Villa on Sunday or does DJ deserve a start, to show what he an do, now he is fully fit.

                    I am a firm believer of not changing a winning team, but a winning team normally suggests the striker is either scoring goals or making them.

                      I know where you're coming from, but again i think if possible they need to keep the starting 11 as it is while we are playing so so well.

                      No he hasn't scored, but in contrast to the other night, i can't actually think of a chance he had in the game. His link play again was faultless and allowed the boys to play and find the holes. Also not mentioned before i don't think, is that when he comes deeper to win the first ball, not only has he dominated that battle every time, but he also brings a CB with him, which leaves a gaping hole in the oppos defence, which we've exploited to create chances with the runners beyond him.

                      Great to see DJ score and will do him the world of good, but they were really stretched by then and committing more forward, as they had to, and we were running at them at will near the end. I don't think we'd have carved out that goal anywhere near as easilly early on. Either way, great having him off the mark and he'll be raring to get involved and buzzing when he comes off the bench, and with his pace and confidence, he could prove devastating late on in matches if he remains a sub, which for me he has to at he moment.

                        I thought Bothroyd was fantastic again on Saturday and actually, being the centre forward in this team is not 100% about scoring goals. His role is a selfless one and he does it great.
                        Tis true though that DJC know's how to sniff out a goal and that is something he does so much better than Jay B.

                        Incidentally, I noted that Jay is keen to know if he has a song yet as everyone else seems to. He tweeted it the other day (or so I'm told) and he does have a good point

                          That's exactly it. The way we play, our CF will be targeting double figures, not 20+ goals. By playing this way, the CF doesn't get loads, but others around him get more than they may normally.

                          We need to be thinking Mark Hughes at Utd, not Van Nistelrooy. He never got that many goals, but i bet was the first name on the teamsheet when fit as he allowed the others to shine and the team collectively scored more as a result, which is what matters.

                          What's better, 5 players with 10 goals, or one with 25. Also this style is less risky becasue if you have one goal threat focul point, if they get injured you're in trouble.... (or sold ala Bent at Sunderland... Yesterday was their first home win since new yrs day!!)

                              my view on bothroyd is this.. like any striker.. if the team is performing and he is taking his chance then obviously he stays in.

                              if the team is performing but he isnt having any chances(like wolves) then no need to change.

                              if he is missing chances is the one for me. and only against newcastle did he miss a sitter, wolves i cant remember many shots/headers at goal by jay.. certainly nothing clear cut. what jay did was bring all our midfielders into the game by holding the ball up. dj will be a player to use when we need to counter attack.
