Of course we would welcome a good striker. Bothroyd still has a lot to prove. He is a good addition to the squad but we have been linked to better and nearly got Bellamy.
So why would we not want another striker if we can clearly justify the spend. If we couldn't we would not have been in for Crouch (though not sure what we would have paid for him) and Bellamy.
The fact is that if we continue to play like that we will be more attractive to better players, so January could be good for us.
If we had a strike force as good as our midfiled we would worry every defence in the league.

Who though?
There are very few people who I can actually see making a real difference for QPR who are a possibility. What we need is a proven goal scorer at this level which is why Bellamy and Crouch would have been fantastic signings but there aren't many around. Would Stoke sell Kenwyne Jones, would Louis Saha stay fit for long enough? Would Kevin Doyle leave Wolves for us? Each of them have scored goals in the Premiership (not prolifically) but they are all first team players and so it's harder to convince them to come to us.
I'm struggling to find a player who is a) proven and b) would leave his current club for us.

Or c) who we need. I mean c'mon, weve played 1 game with our new squad assembled and weplayed blooming well! There will be games where the ball just wont go in the net, but with players like Bothroyd, Campbell, SWP an Adel, we will get goals. We threatened enough, on another day 3 would have gone in by half time.
Fair enough if in a few games time were still struggling, but at the moment I think we are jumping to conclusions abit. You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Problem with saying we need a striker is who? If you play with only one up front it needs to be a fairly bulky centre forward type and very few of those are prolific - every club would like a 27-year-old Drogba who is both a target and very clinical but how many of them are there? Defoe is in many ways a brilliant striker and needs a new club but he would no more fit into our team than DJ seems to. Particulary, as Sir Pie says, who would be willing to come to a club like ours?

There aren't many who aren't getting a look in for their clubs (other than Crouch and Bellamy they are no longer possible) who could do a job and not break the bank. The likes of Anelka, Berbatov and Defoe are all unlikely even though none of them are guaranteed first team football. So then we are looking at players like Doyle, Saha, Jones, even some like Gabby A (not going to attempt the spelling) but that's only if they aren't playing regularly or are playing for a club who is doing worse than we are.
