  • Club Captain?

In light of the recent transfer activity, do we think that Adel Taarabt is still considered to be club captain?

I have to say, based on his form and fitness in the first few games, I think Taarabt may be very lucky to start against Newcastle. With this in mind, who do we think will captain the side?

          Ramadan is over.
Taarabt was our best chance of scoring against Wigan.
He will start AND get the armband -- NW knows what he's doing.

The only reason Warnock played him for 90 against Rochdale was to get his match fitness up. Warnock said he should be 100% for Newcastle so there is no way he won't start.

Yes Taarabt, why should we take it from him when he needs more support ...

I think it would be unprecedented to give the captain's armband to a player on his debut for the club!?
Derry seems the obvious choice if Taarabt is not deemed suitable in the short term.

I rate him very highly as a player, but why does he captain the team really. Is he very vocal on the pitch?

As I see it; Barton should be the the new captain.

Probably will be now. But Scott Parker was, until wednesday.

I have to be honest, I really don't think Taarabt has ever displayed the sort of leadership qualities associated with captaining a side. When things are not going our way his head drops before everyone elses and at times he throws his toys out of the pram. He is hardly the guy you turn to to pick the team up by the scruff of the neck when you're loosing (like Gerrard or Scott Parker would).

In my opinion the armband was only ever given to Taarabt to keep him happy and ultimately keep him at the club. Look around the squad now and we are not a team with just 1 superstar anymore. For the first time in a long while I think we can actually say with confidence that we could afford to lose Taarabt and still have a strong enough squad.

Do you think the likes of SWP, Barton, Young, Ferdinand etc are accustomed to being captained by a prima donna like Taarabt?

We and prob Warno don't wonna rock the boat by stripping Adal of his arm band. I say leave it as it is, cos we all know who's gonna be the boss on the pitch.

Shaun derry said on Talksport the other night that NW called a few of them to a meeting and decided on Adel as a way of making him more responsible.

I missed that interview, interesting decision. I really hope Taarabt seizes the opportunity. I have visions of Barton nutting him next time he throws a strop!
