Don't you remember how our patch of poor form, which started with a home loss to Watford last season, coincided with Faurlin's injury lay off? He doesn't do a lot of spectacular things, so he is easy not to notice, but his passing and ball retention is very important for us.
What Injury lay off do you mean ?
When Faulin was injured last season in the game at Ipswich, he missed the following games against Leicester, Doncaster, Millwall, Norwich and Swansea. In those games, QPR scored 9 goals, conceded 1 and got 14pts, so they didn't miss him at all and Buzz who replaced him, played superbly. He played for 60 minutes against Watford and when he came off the game was over and he missed the Leeds game, but was back for the Swansea game.
Faurlin is over rated and has hugh potential, but at the moment he is not firing on all cylinders.
id play barton a tad further forward than a holding role.. joey can do damage with the right peg of his. would much prefer he took corners and free kicks
Soldier: "im on reconnaissance sir.. im looking for our camouflage expert.. have you seen him?"
Lovejoy: "No?!"
Soldier: "GOD DAMNIT THAT GUYS GOOD!"
Also, could Faurlin do the donkey work that Derry does, which allows others to do what they do best ?
Agreed, I think some off our supporters on here as per usual are posting stuff without thinking about it also I don't think many appreciate the sort of player Barton is. He is skillful, creative with a great engine the role infact what Faurlin has not Derry.
Is it me, or am I mistaken? If it's between Derry and Faurlin to partner Joey as defensive midfield, for me it's Derry all day long. He is good pro imo, workrate, keeps possession well, good passer, whereas Faurlin looks a bit nervous and unsure.
It's got to be Derry and Barton for me in the short term. Ali has time on his side will mature - he will also learn a lot about PL football from watching Barton. Besidess - Derry and Barton is about as solid as it gets for anyone bar the big few anyway
Barton's not a holding midfielder. Likes to break forward.
Very skilful player. Alot of people seem to get the impression he is of the "Derry mould" due to his agression, but he really is handy going forward. Think maybe playing the following could be an option worth considering:
Derry Faurlin
SWP Barton Adel
DJ
Gives Derry and Faurlin protection that way, Barton will attack and get back too.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.
I think without Faurlin we would have got relegated in 2010 and his end of season form last season was sensational really stepped up especially when the points discussion possibility arose.
Poor game v Bolton - great game v everton poor game v Wigan - needs to step up but based on last 2 season not sure what people are watching if they say he has been only average but agree he must step up now
Faurlin and Taarabt are the main players for us in wanting the ball. They will both give a pass and will always look to receive the ball again. Most of our attacks start through Faurlin playing balls to the attacking three after Derry has won the ball. Think MattyRangers has got the midfield spot on to how Warnock will play it. Barton has been playing right mid for Newcastle all this season and is not a defensive midfielder.
I think Mr. Derry doesn't do the, big I am, and always speaks with great humility.
He always plays down his ability, and importance compared to others, and never presumes he'll be in the team. Top professional!!
If it had to be one of Derry / Faurlin, it would have to be Derry on curent form as he's been excellent in every game this season.
Just because Barton likes to break forward doesn't mean he has to play as one of the advanced 3, and could well take the place of one of the above. He could still drive forward with Derry sitting. It needs someone with discipline to do so and he would be fine.
Personlly i would have it that way for games where we want to be on the front foot and allow Buz to remain central of an advanced 3, as i think he has been one of our best performers so far also, and comfortably keeps possession, can create and score. If we need to be more defensive in games, Barton could play more advanced in place of Buz, and allow us to be tighter with Faurlin and Derry in the team also.
Listening to Derry's Talksport interview, he gave the indication that it would be himself that could be missing from the starting 11 at the Newcastle game.
Neil at the beginning of the summer told him that he was bringing in somebody in his position and that turned out to be Joey Barton. So at first when I heard this I though right well Faurlin plays there too so either one of them could be replaced. But then Shaun went on to say that last season he was sure that Neil would have liked to give him a rest at some point but he couldnt because there was only 2 players that play in the 'anchor' role and the other one was Mahon who was injured all year. So judging by this, Neil obviously sees Derry's and Faurlin's positions differently despite them both being holding midfielders. I knew their styles of play were different but this clearly means the positions aren't the same either.
I'm sure that Barton is quite a versatile player so this could change after the Newcastle game quite easily, but for the Newcastle game I feel that Neil is starting with Barton & Faurlin in holding midfield.
Could be wrong, but just thought I'd share that.
Good post , I think we'll go 4-5-1 Derry, Barton and Faurlin all in the middle and two wingers, SWP, ADEL, switching flanks. One striker up top, that way we'll keep possession, and we won't get tonked 6-0. 3 guys who can tackle in front of
Anton, Gabbidon, Traore and Young. My opinion.
