SWP, is listed in his most effective position, on the right wing.
Puncheon, is in most effective position, on the right/left wing.
Taarabt is listed in his most effective position, behind the striker.
DJ Campbell in listed in his preferred position, in front of goal.

Have to say I agree totally with mason on this 1!

I thought you could only have 5 subs on the bench now which is why a lot of managers were recently bemoaning the fact that they couldn't blood a lot of their youngsters.

There are definitely going to be quite a few players not in that 25 that we need to now loan out to the football league. Definites are:

        Kenny
        Murphy
        Cerny

        Orr
        Young
        Traore
        Hill
        Gabbidon
        Ferdinand
        Hall
        Connolly

        Barton
        Faurlin
        Derry
        Dyer
        SWP
        Taarabt
        Smith
        Buzsaky
        Puncheon?
        Mackie?

        Bothroyd
        DJ
        Helguson

Puncheon yet to be confirmed and Mackie unfit but if he is back sooner rather than later he will make the 25. Depending on those two that leaves just 1-3!!! spaces for a lot of players:

        Perone
        Shittu
        Ephraim
        Vaagen Moen
        Hulse
        Agyemang

Think Warnock will go with Perone, then Agyemang, then Ephraim, depending on the puncheon/mackie situation.

Personally I would rather play mackie or tommy smith up front over hulse and agyemang so would leave these two out. I have a soft spot for ephraim but if puncheon signs then he wont get in any squad so no point in him being added. Would also rather shittu over perone but this may be due to sentimentality.

ps. This doesn't even include the likes of Rowlands, Cook, Borrowdale, Alberti, Pelicori who weren't given squad numbers and Ramage and Vine who are out on loan.

And my starting 11 when everyone is fit (will never happen so we will need all 25)...

          Kenny
          Young Ferdinand Gabbidon Traore

          Barton Derry

          SWP Buzz Taarabt

          Bothroyd

Subs: Murphy, Hall, Puncheon, Faurlin, Dyer, Mackie, DJ

          (Look at that subs bench!)

Only in the Football League. It's still seven for the PL.

Balance. Prefered positions yes, but that's four players with hardly any defensive fibers in their body. Looking at last season, and the first 3 games this season we've had players like Smith, Buzsaky and Mackie in those positions. Players who can track back. Yours is effectivly a 4-2-4 formation, will be suicide against a lot of teams in this league. Especially away from home

Puncheon and SWP easily have the pace to track back. Whenever I have seen SWP he has always been very helpful to his right back and in recent years Man City have often used him as a third central player. The boy can bite.

In fact, with our 4 attacking players, we might get caught out and end up getting beat so often like that Spanish Side Barcelona with their attacking 4 of Villa, Messi, Sanchez and Xavi who dont track back....

Your right, but I would like to see him in attack as much as possible, along with Adel and DJ/Bothroyd. Let Barton do the backtracking with Derry and Faurlin. Just my opinion of course

Joody's list looks right to me.

Think Perone's supposed versatility will mean he will get a spot and then it really is a toss up between 3 or 4 players for the last couple of spots. How fit is Hulse? He's a Warnock signing so you'd think he would favour him over say Agyemang. If Puncheon goes through is Ephraim at risk? Vaagen Moen and Sh*ttu will IMO both definitely miss out.

More interesting to speculate on who wont make the 25 (assuming that Puncheon is confirmed).

Definitely up for loan or release, as they havent really figured in pre/season:

                              Shittu
                              Hulse
                              Moen

                              Then two more...

I have a feeling we will be surprised on who goes out, and I think NW will want to keep at least 2 if not 3 target men in the squad, i.e. Bothroyd, Agyemang, Helguson. so at least one of Aggy&Helgur will stay.

Mackie could be the other loaned out just for fitness reasons, allowing Hogan to be retained.

We also may look top heavy on defenders after the acquisitions and therefore one must go instead? Connelly, Perone, Hill, Orr, Dyer, Hall.

Again for fitness reasons, Dyer could be loaned?

There is no better balance than playing a player in his most effective position, but I guess you will say there is. You are effectively saying SWP and Puncheon should be swapped for players that track back, as Taarabt will play, as will Bothroyd or Campbell up front. So who would you play then in the 2-3-1 formation, which is what NW is playing. Don't change the formation, just name the players.
