EXCLUSIVE: Spurs tell Parker he must take pay cut

Scott Parker’s move to Tottenham is hanging in the balance unless he agrees to take a pay-cut.

Premier League rivals Stoke and QPR have made bids for Parker but the Loftus Road club are the only ones who will match the England *midfielder’s £70,000-a-week Upton Park salary.

Spurs closing in on deal to lure Parker away from West Ham
By Sam Wallace and Glenn Moore
    Saturday, 27 August 2011

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham were close last night to a deal for Scott Parker with negotiations over the fee the final point of contention: the Championship club want £5m while Spurs would prefer to pay £1m less with add-ons.

The England international wants a move to Spurs over Queen's Park Rangers who are prepared to offer him more money than he would get at White Hart Lane. Redknapp has not given up on also signing the Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra but wants Parker more in order to preserve the core of British players in his squad.

I've always had a strong feeling we'll sign Scott Parker on deadline day
    Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
    And many more mistakes

LES FERDINAND, IT'S TIME TO GO

Scotty Parker and Joey Barton in centre mid would be unbelievable. I'm pretty sure he'd take a pay cut to join spurs over us... But then, given his age if we offered him a 3 year deal, I reckon he'd come to us. I cant see spurs offering more than a 2 year deal given the fact he's approaching his 31st birthday. But then offering a 31 year old a 3 year deal sounds a bit excessive. What do u think?

Spurs will offer more in the end of the window, when they are desperate.

Would have thought more likely that spurs get him and then jenas moves to us

Dont want him if he's on 70k a week, I don't think we'll go down but what a risk that would be to have him on 70k a week for two seasons if we go down? Although saying that Barton is on big money as well but I think he'll do better for us with more to prove.

Yeah with £5-10m in the bank he really does need to make as much as possible in the last few years to avoid having to sign on the dole when he retires

I think Euro championships next summer is on his mind more than cash
