  • I hate Twitter

Pees me off how people claim it's bringing the players/stars "closer" to their fans.
Yeah right..... I feel really close to Rio swanning round in his Bentley with tinted windows or playing golf in LaManga as he tweets his guff.
Frankly I don't even believe most footballer tweets are really their efforts - more likely the work of publicists or agents in my view.

Nobody is forcing you to sign upto Twitter and look at their tweets
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Never been on it - wouldn't know how to. Thing is, it permeates into conventional news outlets as lazy print/media journos recycle it all. Only way to avoid it is to live in a cave in Borneo I reckon.

I notice the big two "scoops" splashed across back page of today's Sun derive from tweets.... those journos really do earn their corn with their diligent research and investigations. S'pose it must take a modicum of talent to expand a short string of grammatically poor text into a full-blown article so I shouldn't be too down on them.

its a bit like me and tv shows like "the X Factor"..i can't stand it,people say.."well,you dont have to watch it"..well i know that, but its hard to avoid the bloody thing when everybody is talking about it,its splashed across the newspapers and magazines, its on the news etc etc etc.....
and considering this week, the main source of info on the Barton deal,or any transfer, has been via Twitter..its hard to get away from

You rae right, but the flip side is that it is a dying industry - really hard for journos to get and maintain work now. Big papers are OK at the mo, but even they are at more risk then they used to be.

Couple of my pals are journos - both out of work now beacause the cheap easy option (internet!) is taking over.

I don't tweet but I do occasionally browse and it can be funny at times but also mind-numbingly repetitive. On the plus side it does give people an opportunity to get their point of view out there to a wide audience. The difficulty is of course not knowing if it's the publicist/agent who is writing it, but overall I think it would be missed if gone.

Tell your journo friends to start working for the online industry then. I hate newspapers. Mostly they bring nothing but negative depressing bile. Glad it is a dying industry. It is a shame it is going down with no dignity (News of the world).

A lot of depressing bile out there it's true. But I think we've got a good press here compared to a lot of countries. At least 4 or 5 good national papers to choose from I'd say + some decent local and specialist papers.

There are no jobs there as everything is just copied and imported from low paid freelancers from anywhere in the world. They are not sports journos btw, but the industry as a whole is in poor shape. I know there won't be a lot of symapthy for them though.
