  • Barton's agent to make upto £1m from QPR

According to the Telegraph journalist who seems to have been leading the way with the story. Seems we offered 40,000 a week and a £1.5m signing on fee plus a £250,000 staying up bonus. We then reportedly upped this to a straight £80,000 a week offer, worth an incredible £12m over three years. And the agent apparently earns 5% and maybe even 10% if its difficult to persuade the player to join, as Barton is proving.

If any of this is true its unbelieveably high stakes. I know Warnock has rubbished press speculation about figures but he would deny it, wouldn't he, as Christine Keeler said... If it is incorrect it all seems a very detailed fabrication.

Sounds like ******** to me but....

Perhaps, but it might explain why the agent was sounding so keen! He'd cheerfully package Joey off to Siberia for that much...

Newcastle's Joey Barton bartering over wages makes his agent rich

£80k a week? and no one else seeming to be interested... personally, i wouldn't need much time to think.

hope this isn't true... don't we learn from past mistakes? suppose (and i hope not) we do go straight back down - who is going to take a, ahem, difficult-but-talented player like barton at that kind of wage?

I don't want him here if that's the case. He's taken the club for a ride. "One greedy ba$#**d springs to mind. We have never had these kind of players' wages at the club. It's about wanting to play for the club not holding them to ransom and then making them wait on the decision.

All contracts signed this season will have relegation clauses in them for both parties. I'm not ITK either. (Some common sense's are better than others.)

IMO I would sooner belive Warnock (which ties in with TF's constant comment about building a sustainable club) that some journalist looking for a story.

Are the club reportedly paying his agent or is Barton himself paying him out of his fee?

We will be paying him I presume, with him then getting a cut of Barton's wages every week.

Relegation clause will protect the player 100x more than the club.

Do you think he will agree to drop to 10k a week iof we go down? No.

Sounds like a scam to get the agent more money by miraculously getting him to sign.
