  • Move on...

The more i read about the whole Barton Saga, the more i think it will end in tears. He obviously would rather play for NUFC and used us hoping it prompted them into offering a contract; it hasnt..

I DO NOT want him signed on a 5 year deal reported 60-80k a week when I can see it going horribly wrong. The only benefit is that we might get a fee back if we put on a contract.

Forget him, sign 2 decent full backs and a commanding CB, we have quality and players that want to play for us.

My clubs future is far more important than an unsure hothead deciding if he wants to move to London or not.

I know what you mean but i really think we need him to prove to the other potential signings we mean business, its not as if we have long before the window closes , or, in SSN language 'Slams Shut' , plus hes a blinging player.

to be honest if he wanted to join then he wouldve. he doesnt want to join but knows he doesnt really have any options and is desperately hoping someone else comes in for him.

You make some good points Jeffro. When i read a 5 year deal at 80 large a week straight away i thought 'Oh no'. We cant afford that money surely. Yes i would love Barton and players of his ilk to sign but i dont want us ending up like Pompey. Also if we give Barton 80 grand a week from now on every player we try to sign will want silly dough

Big move...possibly last move for him.....let him think about it.

What we should be focusing on...is that at last we are in the game and making moves.....

Agree with your sentiments Big man - but the numbers you use, presumably they come from the press quotes?
Warnock very clearly dealt with that earlier and there is no way he would be taking 80 large or even close to it out of W12.
Don't let the fanciful press cloud your vision mate

Yeah i'll admit i read those figures in the papars this morning.
You know what i mean though blue, id just hate us to put our club in trouble by trying to buy too big too soon

Hes on 52k at NUFC so we would be bettering that, and being that there is no transfer fee, i find that believable.

Its easy to say move on, but his arrival may well be the catalyst for other quality players. SWP/Onuha etc are far more likely to sign if a player of the calibre of Joey Barton signs.

If he does not sign we are back to looking at the Puncheons of this world and that type of player.

there are clearly issues with barton at the moment and i am sure all the media hype and pressure are compounding them, ultimately we will get more players in before the transfer window closes, and we know we need people at the back, so in reality even if joey doesn't sign for us, there are still some good times lying ahead for us :=B:
                        come on you r's!

Let him think about it. Either way we've shown we mean business and there will be other quality players now having their heads turned.

If he comes, fantastic. If not, it's hardly the end of the world and I wouldn't think any worse of Barton if he chooses to remain in the North or go to a top 6 club. He's in a pretty unique situation with his issues at Newcastle. I can't think of many other players where the deal would be this complex for a number of reasons.

Some people talk like we wont get another player unless Barton signs!!

He is one player, if he dont sign, we could get Parker straight away or another quality player..

Something dont sit right with me about this whole deal.

When he started asking for a new deal on a 5 year term at Newcastle, they came back and said his wages were now down to 30 a week - that was reported on the radio this morning by a Newcastle press source. Don't know how true that is but I heard what Warnock said in the conference this morning and am content to know Neil is making a very public statement about the difference between reality and press speculation
