How many of us thought Derry was over the hill when we signed him? I know I did,and then at the end of the season I'm voting for him for player of the year.

Do find it hilarious that some would turn their noses up at Joe Cole. To the poster who said he would have had him five years ago, well then he was playing Champions League for Chelsea and was an England regular. You may well have graciously accepted him back then but do you think he would have wanted us? On Saturday we brought on Hogan Ephraim, a former West Ham youth player who didn't make the grade at Upton Park and didn't pull up any trees in League One on loan to Leeds.
Ditto David Bentley - of course he is nothing like as good as David Beckham at his peak, but who is? For a club of our size who was in the second tier last season any player of that ilk would be an incredible coup. Just be extremely grateful players of this calibre can be talked of in the same breath as QPR. A few weeks ago we couldn't afford Jason Puncheon. I for one am absolutely delighted and 100% trust Warnock and Fernandes to bring in the players they want.

QPR and Joe Cole in the same breath is amazing from where we were just over a year ago.

I think it's great that some of our lot think we are good enough to turn our noses up at players like Cole and Barton.
In a flash, springs to mind.Last edited by BennyBoyRs; 22-08-2011, 12:18 PM.Your mum would love me...

I think it's fair to say that Cole hasn't been on his best form of late, but it's also worth noting that he's not had much chance to prove he can get back to that level. Joe is a naturally gifted player, and probably the most skillful Englishman in the league. Raw tallent like that doesn't just disappear. Give him games, get his match fitness and confidence back, and he'll prove to be an asset for any team in this league, let alone one of our standard.
I understand some peoples reasons for not wanting Barton, but a player of that calibre is far too good to turn down. Add to this that he seems to have curbed that temper on the pitch, the lad is a much improved player and person over the last two years.Last edited by BennyBoyRs; 22-08-2011, 12:47 PM.Your mum would love me...

Its either players like this or young up and coming players from the lower leagues, and while an established Prem side like Everton can afford to take a bit of a gamble on a Beckford type player I think its pretty clear what we desperately need is established Premier League players - and this will give us an edge over the other newly promoted clubs and one or two of the other weaker teams such as Wigan.

he's not at the same level he was, but that is because he has hardly played due to injury. if he did come to QPR there is no doubt he would get exactly what he needs...regular 1st team football, and neil warnock, who's man management is probably the best in the country, if not one of. without a shadow of a doubt, cole would improve and get back to his best in no time under warnock.

It's a squad game and if anyone would prefer Hogan Ephraim to come on rather than Joe Cole well then they are mad.

I dont think anyone said Cole's not good enough. I certainly think he is, but unless he takes a wage drop to like 40 k a week, then I dont want him.
Nothing to do with ability or the player, what it is to do with is over inflated wages on a ground which holds 18k, and I for one never want to see my club go into adminstration again.
