will you join me in raising a beer to matt connolly tonight,

brillaint performance and an example to why we had the best defence in the championship for five years last year.

    Great performance from Conners.

Was very good I thought, if we don't get in a left back think I prefer him there to Clint. Wd certainly prefer him at right back to Braders. Think he gets a bad press, and until that little wobble towards the end of last season most on here were raving about him. Such is the fickleness of fans.

That said, he was a tiny bit lucky not to give away a penalty today...

Especially considering he was one of the bug victims too.

Would you have been so smug if he had conceded that guilt edge penalty though?

          Still a liability IMO

Must admit after getting in & watching Football first he was VERY lucky to not have conceded that penalty (at the game it looked a nothing) & it was also Conners that gave away a needless free kick on the edge of the box where Baines hit the bar.

As I say he did well today but as W12 pointed out he has a tendency to do some rather silly things also.

Not that can't be right because he's apparently too lightweight for the prem....

He is class imo, end of.

I thought he was brilliant today. He's had a rough ride from our fans of late. I'm not saying he hasn't warranted some of it as he's not been at his best, but some posters have been way over the top about the lad. He's of best footballing defender, without a doubt. Lots of neat passing today, and some great challenges. After watching the replay, he got lucky with the penalty, but credit where it's due.
                Your mum would love me...

Bit of a sad post, asking one fan to raise a beer for one decent performance.

Looked good because full back is his best position and full back is where he should remain because he is solid in that role and it suits him best.

Gabs was top man at the back yesterday and Hall and Orr put a shift in too so happy with how the back four done. Well done lads

Form is temporary, class is permanent. Bar a couple of games last seasons where he was shaky he was part of the best defensive record our club has ever had and the best in the whole country. I suppose what knocked him a bit last season when him and Gorks got dropped despite the team winning all their games and they weren't playing that badly. I suppose he then felt his position wasn't secure and that knocked him in those games like Leicester. However as I have always stated and he will continue to show us this season is players like him will be suited in the Prem because our defenders will have more time on the ball. You're not going to have centre forwards like Torres etc. chasing defenders down. They are more instinctive and this will allow our ball playing defenders time to start an attack, rather than hoofing it like people like Hall. Anyway, we will see this season.
First game: Arsenal vs Queen's Park Rangers at Highbury, Saturday 17th November 1984.

Agreed. I was at the game, and even from where I was sitting, that was as nailed-on a penalty as I've ever seen. A huge slice of luck that neither referee, or linesman, saw it.
It's childish clangers like that, Mat is prone to drop.
He irons that out of his game and Mat would be a very decent player, but until that day dawns he is always gonna be a liability.

Had a decent game yesterday hammersmith but getting a little si ck of your overreacting. He can't play as a centre back gets bullied and lets the ball bounce. I would be happy for him to play at left back and has a chance to take hill's position but lets not get carried away. Not having a pop at you I think cas for starting this post is showing how pathetic and naive 1 can be.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!
