Whether it be Faurlin coming for '£3.5 million' or us signing Mike Sheron from Stoke for £2.5 Million, surely we have to expect our owners to bring in some one that will break the record transfer fee at the club. Hope there not just all hype

You would imagine so, but people still get too concerned over "transfer fees" as if it is a prerequisite for better players.....
West Ham spent £5m on Nolan, whereas Barton is available for free and considered the better player by many.
Arsenal could've spent millions on a CB years ago but got Campbell for free, does it make him a worse player... no he was arguably the best around a the time.
Yes we will spend, but i'd rather get quality for a bargain price anyday rather than being able to say we spent £Xm on a particular player, who may be massively overpriced in the prem. Bothroyd was free and got in the England team only last yesr... his value today is much higher then our record transfer fee to date... it means nothing.

Easy for the younger fans to be so flipint,I remember 16 years ago when we doubled our previous transfer record as a division two team(as now championship)on mike Sheron, our previous record being Ned Nelic for £1.25 million bought by Ray Wilkins, that was so exciting at the time and will be again when we break it in the next two weeks

They cost more than the likes of Sir Les, Trevor, Parker, Wilson, Bardsley etc, so clearly the fact they cost relative fortunes at the time makes the purchases "exciting".... do me a favour.
Don't get me wrong, i'll be very excited like any fan if we spend some decent cash on good players, my point is the value is irrelevant as too many prices are ridiculously inflated, i mean Andy Carroll who didn't even get 20 goals in the CCC when in the team romping away with the league is supposedly worth £35m, the same as Aguero, one of the most exciting strikers in the world at the moment..... Vidic and Evra only cost Utd about £15m combined a few yrs ago, yet Lescott wend for about £24m....
If we got SWP for £2.5m, i would be bloody excited, even though it's not going to break Sheron's fee... would i be more excited if he cost £5m, no.
