Even when (if) we assemble a half decent back line,we are still going to be up against it since our current midfield /attack is not capable of maintaining suffcicient possession to prevent constant pressure on the defence when playing conventionally.

Barcelona's defence is by C/L standards nothing special and when got at often concedes. We all know that their defence is seldom got at since the star players in front of them are probably the best- ever for maintaining possesion. If you look at the hugely successful Liverpool team of the 70s/80s
you will see that whenever they lost the ball, they immediately sought to get all ten outfield players behind the ball ( Keegan included), no lolling about on the halfway line with hands on hips watching the defence being attacked. This model of organisation requires iron discipline and super fitness which they had in spades

Since our midfield/attack are no Barca, and NW says there will be no fitter team than we, he should dig out all that footage of Liverpool and get emulating.

Agreed. I thought Bolton looked a lot fitter than our lot.

Again when Warno said no team could ever be fitter makes me wonder whether he is completely up to speed on modern premiership training techniques - the game has come on a long way, even in the last few years since Warno was last in the Prem.

Yeah that was a very silly statement, we looked a bit leggy after 60 mins or so, its a step up alright in football and fitness.

The problem is we need to make the most of possession - which is exactly the opposite of what Taraabt did - as he wanted the ball for himself and Kenny did - just hoofing the ball to the opposition every single time. It was...well like Championship football - or worse.

To be honest - we are putting our already weak defence under added pressure - why people talk like we played well on Saturday is confusing to me. We didn't play well. Yes, they had some luck, but we made it very easy for them and hard for ourselves.

I don't think we looked that bad as far as fitness levels go. We definitely need to improve, but I think they looked reasonably sharp. Bolton were clearly fitter, and that showed up in the last half hour. Taarabt was massively out of shape. Ok, he's not had as much pre-season as the others, but that's no excuse as a pro. I thought Smith looked slack as well, and I usually speak up for him. Faurlin needs to get down the gym, but I felt he did better than many were saying.

The likes of Hill weren't unfit. Just slow. The front two looked in the best shape, as did Buzz when he came on. Buzz seems to realise the step up, and looks serious. The man has clearly worked hard in recent months.

well i dont think either Holloway or Blackpool were that much better then us,and the first half of the season they breezed it..if they had just learnt not to go gun ho for the 2nd of the season they might have been ok...again,i dont think the Wolves or WBA squads are that much better..it's just a case of learning to adapt, being fit and well drilled..if you do that you can survive
