Well... I've got to say after yesterday I'm truly puzzled where to start?!
I can only speak on a personal basis, but despite my frustrations at the events over the summer - namely the apparent resurrection of Flavio Briatore / extreme price hike / lack of investment and... Well I don't really need to continue do I? But I still returned back to Loftus Road in good spirits.
That's not to say I wanted to paper over some (I mean all!) of the issues we have at QPR, but more to do with the fact that all of us have waited an extremely long time for Premiership football and I wanted to enjoy that special moment that marked our return. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and little did I know that those cracks I wanted to see washed away for a mere 90 minutes would be rammed straight back down my throat a mere few minutes into the second half.
But I've seen plenty of negativity across the MB's and between QPR fan's following yesterdays game, but I didn't think it was all bad. Naturally, to end up on the wrong end of a 4 goal score line is never nice - especially when we have endured in the last few years what a supporter of another club wouldn't have to put up with in their lifetime.
I don't care what anyone says about how fickle supporters can be, I still think we have some of the most passionate, loyal and genuine fans around. I completely understand the contempt for our board that has been bubbling away in supporters minds not only over this summer - but since the takeover took place.
But whilst many pundits and journos will jump onto the scoreline and write our whole season off, I actually thought we played pretty well up until the second goal went in and we more than matched Bolton up until that stage. I think even the MOTD highlights proved we were by no means bossed to the extent the score-line suggests.
An attacking combination of DJ Campbell, Jay Bothroyd and Adel Taarabt will score goals. It was clear that they weren't quite on the same wavelength yesterday, but that will come and I truly believe we will cause defenders problems.
The signs are there, had DJ been onside for his opener we would be discussing a very different score line, had his cut back found Bothroyd and the subsequent shot he had not cannoned off the defender I think that would have been another certain goal. We just didn't quite get the rub of the green on the day and were punished heavily for it.
Naturally, I hope that Warnock gets provided with some funds before the transfer window closes, but I think the primary importance is for Briatore to be ousted ASAP. Should he somehow remain at the club, I hope he at least has the decency to stay away from the ground.
The way the atmosphere changed after the second goal went in was alarming. Those fans that have dug deep to pay for a season ticket are waiting to pounce and I'm in no doubts that any game we fall behind in will result in a similar torrent of abuse towards him.
It appears that this never ending saga regarding a takeover is finally drawing to a head now, so hopefully we will all be able to put this chapter and his ghastly running of our football club firmly behind us. I don't expect Fernandes/Mittal to pump millions into us, but I don't think you can underestimate the importance of a "happy" fan base - that's something we need this season more than ever and they are our only hope of that.
Loftus Road needs to be a fortress and Flavio has well and truly gone beyond the point of no return. I don't think it matters what positive things he does for QPR - he will always remain a hated figure and under his arrogant, heavy handed and erratic ownership the club will only start (and continue in some ways) to slide on a downwards spiral.
I still don't think we are "doomed" as many make out, we have a good solid squad and most reassuringly we have a manager in Neil Warnock that I wouldn't swap for anyone. We don't need sweeping changes of eleven players - we just need to spend some money on a few quality additions, get a few results under our belts and get Loftus Road booming with support again... I tell you clubs won't look forward to visiting Loftus Road then!
I'll be keeping a very close eye on proceedings over the coming week, if we get our wish and Lakshmi Mittal and Tony Fernandes do take ownership of the club then I think we will see drastic changes in the mindset of everyone associated at QPR. A happy club is a successful club, you only have to take a look at last season to see the difference that proper management can make.
Here's hoping...
