PLEASE CAN WE STOP SPOUTING ON ABOUT HOW GOOD OUR DEFENCE WAS LAST SEASON!

Last season we were playing CHAMPIONSHIP teams, this season we are playing PREMIERSHIP teams.

Warnock, who got us promoted, obviously thinks Gorkks & Connolly weren't up for Kevin Davies and that Hall and Gabbidon were. I thought they did ok and it's clearly the full backs and our lack of pace which is the problem.

I do find it strange that Hall couldn't get in the side last season, so therefore not good enough for the Championship. So how is he going to be better in the Premiership? I thought Klasnic and Davies gave Hall and Gabiddon the run around. Our full backs looked woeful as well. Hill was so stupid at the end. Going to be a long old season!

The defence clearly needed improving for the Prem but all we've done is replace Gorks/Conners with an injury prone Gabbidon. Not NW's fault as things stand but unless he's allowed to improve it more drubbings to follow.

Good thing about Gorksy and Connors last year is they covered for each other well, played as a defence unit. Hall and Gabbidon didn't, they both looked isolated and disjointed.
Neither closed down quick enuf for the first goal, Gabbidon lookd like he was deaf to the calls for the second, Deflection for the 3rd came off Hill, so where were the CB's again, and for the 4th they were too far apart and left a gaping hole.

Bring Back Connolly ! (not sure about Gorksy tbh)

I thought Hall was poor against Bolton and let Gabbidon down at times. Gabbidon looked good until the own goal after that he looked a bit lost. Hall lost a fair bit of his headers against Kev Davies as well.

This result wasnt their fault, that´s for sure.

It's funny, because I don't think anybody had a really terrible game.

We were a very settled unit last season, really organised.
We all want new players bought in, and there should be a couple more incoming.. but the price you often pay for that is a disjointed team display at first.
I think that's partly what we saw yesterday.

I have played Ryman level as a centre back.

My question to you is your my manager, I come in at half time and IYO you blame myself and my centre back partner for the 1st goal.

All of a sudden I lose respect in the manager and I even have the nerve to question the gaffers opinion.

Gaffer why r u blaming us for not picking up there central defender that strikes a ball from 25 yards while we are marking there centre forwards that are in the 18 yard box? Please explain why the centre backs were at fault for letting boltons centre back score? Look forward to your reply.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

OK, maybe it was a bit unfair, they can't be everywhere I suppose, but the point is he was in loads of space, and no-one was marking him, or closing him down quick enuf. If our CB's were busy marking their strikers, there should of been shouts from them for someone else to pick up the man on the edge of the box. And also, even tho our CB's are not in the same league, I'll bet Terry, Vidic etc would have been charging forward to block the shot.
Also do you think we were a bit too deep defensively which is dictated by our CB's?

At times we were to deep. Infact far to deep. We had far to many players in the 18 yard box and we should of kept a high line. This is the duty of the centre halfs to pull the whole line up. This was an issue and was the main reason there was a huge gap between our defensive midfielders and centre halfs.

My issue is I thought Derry played well and kept possesion well. I have an issue with faurlin. At times he was getting bullied and his passing wasn't up to scratch. As a centre back it's very difficult/suicidal to keep a high line when the midfield are losing that battle in the centre of the park. Tarbs losing the ball doesn't help things as we have no pace to get back and we can be caught on the break with ease.

Lack of pace was a glaring issue yesterday, and I'm sure Warnock realises that as much as anyone on here.

Which is probably why we are in for Bertrand and Puncheon, and why the failure of Briatore to back Warnock over the Naughton signing was his biggest crime of the summer in my eyes.
Hill is decent enough, but lacks pace to recover when better teams play through us.
You need full backs who have the pace to recover, and sweep up around the back when we are passed open.

Dyer may be the answer at RB, if his bones can stop turning to honeycomb at 3pm every saturday.
We actually don't have a left back now for 3 games, so we'd better tie that up first.
