  • QPR, Swansea and Norwich

I'm new to message boards and dont really get involved in gossip and transfer speculation. If you ask me teams aren't built on individual players but on a recipe that involves many factors that include the manager, fans, backroom team and how the players play with each other rather than their own performances. On paper the likes of everton and bolton dont really have that great players but are clubs that as a whole have been very successful for the past 3-5 years. West Ham on the other hand were full of great players yet went down.

I am truly flabergasted at the negativity on some of the boards I have read today. I am as excited as I have ever been about supporting QPR and was hoping to read thread upon thread of people 'waxing lyrical' about their plans for saturday. For many people, i was 11 in 1996, saturday is the biggest game in our lives and I for one am going to love it.

It seems a lot of negativity surrounds our signings and people comparing us too Swansea and Norwich. First of all it is worth pointing out that our team finished last season as the best team in the division by far. Without the distractions of the faurlin saga, I am sure we would of won it weeks ahead of the end of the season. Therefore we started with a squad miles ahead of swansea and norwich.

...and we have not lost a single first team player apart from Routledge and he really only came to replace Mackie who will be back soon! So this is essentially the same squad! So why does everyone think a team that beat everyone last season has turned into relegation faves only 3 months later. I dont get it?

On to the second point, why does everyone think Swansea and Norwich's signings are better that ours. True they have spent a little more money but not much but norwich have only signed 2 more players and swansea only one. Both have signed players on loan too and we have signed none on loan. As for the players bought how on earth are DJ Campbell and Booothroyd worse that Morrison and Vaughan. Both rubbish players if you ask me, vaughan was crap for CP last season and we kept morrison quiet easily too, looks like a big lump who can head a ball. Bothroyd played for england last year!!!!! Does no one realise that. And DJ scored 13 goals and was injured/suspended for periods too. How many players scored more than DJ??? As for swansea, graham and lita are unknowns, might do well might not but in a million years not as good as Bothroyd and DJ.

Finally on to defense. This is the one area I knew we didnt need to spend big on, unlike up front. Not only did we have the best defense in the league but the entire country. Individually none are world beaters, but as a defensive unit I have never seen a better team from Kenny through to Derry. They all made individual mistakes but over 46 games, flukes and coincedences dont exist and our defense proved we were the best...
three months on and now i'm reading threads saying gorks, connolly, derry, orr, hill, hall, shittu all aren't good enough. Are you all crazy??? If it ain't broken why fix it. Gabbidon has bundles of experience too though i dont really think he is needed. So why the negativity around the defense as I just dont get it???

I understand off the pich things are a bit weird and we dont know really whats going on but that is very seperate from on the pitch, which looks to me pretty good.

So question is, why the negativity? I hope i dont upset people but I have always got a sense that qpr fans were very hard to please. We have been ****ed over so many times off the pitch over the last 16 years and I always thought that would lead to our fans uniting and supporting whoever plays in the blue and white hoops. However, we seem as fans to be very quick to criticise or turn on players and worst of all boo teams, sometimes when we arent even doing that bad. It started for me as a kid with Paul Furlong and I have seen it since with Steve Palmer, Mark Bircham, Kevin Gallen (my favourite player of all time), Lee Cook and more recently people like Ramage. Are we just a very negative club and a very negative set of fans and do we look for the bad over the good so we can have a good old moan???

Whatever the case I really didn't think there was much to moan about at the moment, yet we are managing it! Lets just enjoy ourselves and have a great season back in the prem!

Yes you obviously are new to MB's, not come across anyone who hasnt said JB & DJ for 1.25 mill isnt a far better value strike force than Morrison/Vaughan for 5 mil or Graham for 3.5 mil.

Seem to me like a post so everyone can tell you " good on you fella, well said"

Well you aint getting that from me.

Make some decent posts and I'll respect that more.

That's fair enough Jeffro on the strikers, like I said I dont read this board much so just going on the top page really. Do you agree we'll finish above Swansea and Norwich then? If we started with the better team and have improved our team better than them then I think we'll beat them easy.

Just seems others don't and want to find out why.

What about the defense? I've definitely read people saying ours isn't good enough...why?

          Great post Joody
          But why post here?
The average attention span for reading posts is about 2.7 seconds so nobody's ever going to get past the first paragraph; the only way is to post bite sized segments and fire them in like bullets every minute or so.That way you can keep the casualties down to a minimum.....

Yes we'll finish above, all promoted sides and newcastle, blackburn & Wigan.

Definitely agree with Wigan. Now they have lost N'Zogbia, who is left?

Newcastle don't look that much stronger either, depends on all these new french players but losing carroll, nolan and maybe barton is pretty massive.

Maybe I just misread the mood from what I'd read. Cant wait for sat.

                      So, why are you here?

So this is essentially the same squad! So why does everyone think a team that beat everyone last season has turned into relegation faves only 3 months later. I dont get it?

Because that was the Championship. We are now in the Premiership. I'm not going to explain the difference as I have a life expectancy which I am fast approaching.

I refer "The Honourable Gentleman" to the answer I gave some moments ago.

Lets just enjoy ourselves and have a great season back in the prem!

Now, that, I agree with. And welcome to the board. I'm sure your opinions -that you don't like to give - will be fully appreciated.

Forums are all about individual points of view, and while I don't agree with all of your points, you do make some good observations.

                        Firstly, the negativity.
It's easy to blame posters for being negative, but this often starts in the media, and the press report will usually dictate whether the story is good or bad, negative or positive when it's then discussed on the forums. So really, the fans are not being negative, they are usually just commenting on a negative story, and there is a big difference. So then some let it wash over them, some bury their heads in the sand and hope for the best, and some get angry. It's just different ways of dealing with a negative story.

Secondly, fans are ambitious. We don't like to think that another club might have an advantage, like the lack of spending compared to others, and passion takes over, it's quite normal. No-one knows what to expect.

We hope due to a blinkered opinion that we are in good shape and may challenge for a place in europe, while quietly worrying if we might be 10 points adfift by xmas. We'll see how we look after 4 or 5 games, then you'll see negative and positive comments, but at the moment it's all about nervous apprehension.

                          Welcome Joody.

Hopefully once the season gets underway, things will start to get a little more positive in all areas.
