  • What system now?

Competition for places is fantastic and as I've just said on another thread about Swansea signing Routledge you need players to come in when there are losses of form, suspensions and injuries but with the first game of the season just over a week a way and a clean bill of health (touch wood) except for Mackie what will the attacking line up look like? Who will start and who will miss out now DJ has arrived?

I'd assume Faurlin and Derry will continue in the middle and then it's four from DJ, Dyer, Taraabt, Bothroyd, Smith, Buzsaky, Ephraim, Helguson, Agyemang, Hulse and possibly Puncheon if we do indeed sign him (and then later Mackie when he's fully fit). It's great to have this competition but I'm not entirely sure with how NW will start against Bolton.

    Thoughts?

As it stands I think NW will go for

    Kenny

    Dyer Hall Gabbidon Hill

    Derry Faurlin

    Smith Taarabt DJ

    Bothroyd

Smith and DJ playing off JB as opposed to being wingers.

NW seems to like the current formation so I see no reason for him to change.

      Paddy

      Orr Hall Gabbidon Hill

      Dyer Faurlin
      Bothroyd Adel Smith

      Campbell

I've always liked the 4-4-4, if you can get away with it!

          4-3-1-2 maybe?

          ----------Kenny

          Orr-Connolly-Shittu-Hill

          --Smith-Derry-Faurlin

          -------Taarabt

          -----DJ - Bothroyd

I agree with the line-up but I think you will see Smith and Cambell as wingers. NW will have to play Taarabt a lot more centrally this year, as a deep lying centre forward, as he will be a liability defensively. Many teams in PL play with wing backs which will put loads of pressure on our full backs (2 against 1 overlaps) if AT plays out wide.

Puts a lot of pressure of JB as he will be expected to hold it up, get it wide then spin into the box to get on the end of the resulting crosses. I think we will struggle to get enough people in the box to be really dangerous. We shall see. Both Campbell and Smith will have to get in at the far post.

against the weaker sides in the prem i think we should addopt an attacking system & would prob look like this

              kenny

              orr gabbidon hall hill

              derry buzz faurlin

              adel
              dj bothroyd

obviously not a lot of width but midfield 3 could move side to side n what with the lesser teams not having so great of wingers to shout about i think this would do. against better teams would prob go 4-4-1-1 take buzz out of center mid b bring in likes of smith n mackie/puncheon? out wide n prob not play dj.

NW won't change our 4-2-3-1 for the first games.
We could switch to a quality 4-4-2 with our current squad Taarabt on the wing though.

                      I like this.

Would be well happy to see us start like that.

Smith is not defensive midfielder, more likely to have Buz in there. No width in this side and he won't play 2 up top.

Wouldn't be so sure about 2 up top,to press as we at home....but this is very close.2 centrebacks are a lottery though.

Have a strong feeling DJ could be the new Les, lookin forward to it now....

Yeah if you were going to play three in midfield like that I'd put Dyer in for a start but as you say doesn't give you much width!
