Can you tell me who many teams launch the ball straight down the middle in the prem?? Not that many i would suggest, he is our best ball playing centre back, and with a strong dominant partner could be a real success.

A Defender has to attack a ball and not let it bounce in any level of football.

Whether it be against Barcelona of Barnsley..

Basic defending knowledge, which you learn from 5 years old.

Agreed Jeffro, and cant argue he was poor at this last eyar (understatement I know!), but as somebody mentioned earlier, I think NW and the coaches wil be well aware of this and ensure hes spent hours upon hours working on this over pre-season. I hope anyway!!!

Mate dont show yourself up, there are different ways of playing football, and are different ways to defend. Would you say Rio Ferdinand attacks the ball? If your defending against say a Stoke City then be prepared to have a sore fore head, but in the prem league danger comes from out wide and balls played up to feet. Connolly reads the game quite well and is comfortable in possession, or do you think all centre backs should be taught from a very young age(say 5) to head the ball and toe punt it 40 yards down the park??

What's that got to do with it. Did you watch the game? Connolly literally gave him 3 clear cut chances. Anyway that is only one game. General view from me is that he is too weak.

                We shall see.

Fair point but Tarrabt won us the league. Can't remember Connolly being man of the match very often?

It also doesn't show much gratitude for their achievements last season.
I would say yes that is the case. 5 good/very good championship players and one outstanding championship player that won Championship player of the season.

We also had the best team spirit and manager who has a massive hunger to win, Derry and Hill personified this spirit in the team and that is why we won the league.

These players/spirit will not be enough when you are playing against world class players week in week out. Which is why we desperate need to get some proven quality in. Bothroyd is a start. Cambell again is an improvement but we need to get some quality at the back. A decent leader Tony Adams type centre half. I look at our back four and there are no leaders, Hill possibly.

Who mentioned toe punting it.. ok taking your example into account.

For every Man utd there is 2 or 3 stoke's, Wolves, Boltons who play with a big target man.

So even against United where the threat is from the wings and balls into feet; well Connolly

                        1) Isnt fast
                        2) Isnt strong
                        3) Doesnt man mark well

Therefore he is probably even more flawed against a footballing side.

You're trying to convince me that an average championship defender is Premiership quality, but i aint having it.

Fitz Hall will be the best Defender we have in the Prem, fitness being good.

17 i believe, and Dyer himself in his interview said he has offers from 2/3 prem clubs.

If, for example, we had a decent season and finished, day 15th, would you be happy or still have a few moans? Because i reckon 99% of fans would be over the moon with such a finish and just wanted your take on it
Because I'm desperate for us to do well. Read the Daily Mail article yesterday and that sums up exactly how I feel. Agreed with every single part of it. Especially the bit about the Italian Moped salesmen.

If we didn't have the potential I would not be moaning and would be happy with scraping 17th. With the 2nd richest owners in WORLD football and watching Warnock scrape around for waifs and strays, whilst we the fans are asked to pay double for the privilege, surely is worth a moan! We haven't even got a kit FFS.

i just find it incredible that we won the championship at a canter and we dont think many are able to step up before a ball is kicked,
i also wonder how many people judging our players against the top 6, ill say it again our staying up nothing to do with how we fare against those , it will be how we fare vs the bottem half,
                              Agree with all of that.

I'm not comparing our players with top six teams, I just can't seriously be certain of beating anyone with our team at the moment. What are your banker 3 points next season? Norwich and Swansea? Routlege vs Hill, Sinclair vs Orr and Graham vs Connolly???
