Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is trying to beat QPR to the signing of DJ Campbell – marking a sentimental return for the Blackpool striker.

The Seasiders have agreed a £1.25million fee for Campbell with Neil Warnock’s Premier League newcomers.

But Hotline can reveal that Villa’s new boss believes he is leading the race for the 29-year-old forward.

I think this is complete BS!!!! why do papers hate us haha

Why haven't we sealed this deal yet.... It really is just asking for trouble by allowing this kind of eleventh hour intervention. Even if there is no truth in it, it leaves room for doubt and worry and we sure don't need any more of that. GIVE HIM A PEN AND PAPER!

the guys 29 and only been a professional for 4-5 years, he'd go for the one whos going to look after him with his last chance to earn big money, will that be Rangers?

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if Villa nicked him from under our noses (a la Graham and CMS).Our board F about too much and after all we've only been interested in him for about 5 weeks for Christ sake a good head start on anyone else .
The article goes on to say "Campbell fancies his first team chances at Villa and is prepared to wait and sort out a deal once they return from the Asia Cup".
Perhaps the thread yesterday about Campbell saying "maybe" to the question as to whether he was going to join us is the nearest we'll get to signing him.
I hope not,and that his love of the R's will be enough to see us through.

As I posted on another thread, hope this is not another one who got away. Tie things up early for f**k sake and get the players we're promised.
Opinions are like A******s, everyone has one, but nobody wants to see the other guy's.
