  • After watching all the games in Italy some thoughts

Obviously they are friendlys so you have to allow for that, but opinions will have been formed by the management team and the fans,

Positives for me were Kenny,Faulin,Dyer,Bothroyd,Hall and i thought Buzz looked lively.Tarrabbt can of course still win the game in 1 pass

On the fence for Gabbidon,Perone,Connelly,Orr and Hill even though we know what the last 2 can play like abeit at a lower level.

Negatives and for me a big worry if we see to much of them Agyemang,Ephraim and Gorkks, all look way short of what we want.

Smith still not sure, and even though it hurts me to say it Derry looks well short of pace and maybe past his best,

If DJ signs, upfront and midfield look fine, defence is a big concern.

agree with pretty much all of that. however i think derry did well on a whole - obviously he's not the quickest and it may take him a few more games to get up to match fitness but i would say out of the problem areas that is the last of the areas that needs to be sorted. however like i said i agreed with everything else, spot on mate

I only watched the second game, but I thought Derry played well, and our passing overall was good.

Maybe the transfer budget will increase with the takeover by Fernandes. Either he will put money in or perhaps Mittal will be willing to get more involved once T&C are no longer dictating. Otherwise, I really don't understand why TF will be buying a club that is almost certain to be relegated (QPR wont stay up with such a slow defence).

yeah hoopla was just about to add over the 3 games i think we more than held our own against technically sound opponents. some nice possession and good link up play at times, its only pre season so dont mean too much but u can only go on what u see... and to be honest most of the team played pretty well. Just the defence was highlighted and that can only be a good thing... cant believe we signed gabbidon

Gabbidon worries me big time -- like a less skilled Fitz Hall and a bit of a liability.
We seem to be starting to rack and stack strikers, but the defence looks like it could leak like a sieve.
Faurlin is my hero!!! Love him!!! #########

I know our defence is lacking ''big names'' but we conceded 1 goal against the runner up in europa leauge and a serie A side. I know we need to improve our defence but doesn't this proove that they have some quality after all?

The one thing that concerns me is the tempo of all 3 games, won't be that slow in the prem and we got caught out a few times against sides that aren't that quick.

Thought that Gabbidon was our best player against Cesena but after tonights games , he hardly put a foot right.
Fitz did well as did JB with Faurlin just getting better and better.

Perone like Gabbidon looks suspect and Derry does seem off the pace.
I think Buzz did quite well but the problem is where does he fit

Not a good tour for Hogan
Dyer was very good today and I think that he and Connolly looked our two best full backs. Warnock may well be thinking along those lines playing them in the second game as clearly Hill and Orr leave us suspect at the back and when Gorkks is in there we are painfully slow.

Hope that Neil gets some money to address our major problem areas as if so I think we have a chance of survival... Without them we will really struggle.

Gabbidon is a worry, bad touch and looked nervous on the ball

Really wanted Derry to do well but the truth is that he will not be able to keep up in the Prem

Smith looked tired and not with it

Agey, Hill and Connolly looked like they was struggling along with Perone who was not that good

                        Impressed with Bothroyd and Dyer

Totally agree. We must strengthen our defence because in the Premier League, the cost of any defensive error is high. Any mistake we will be easily punished.

Not sure why i bother to log on here and read the rubbish spouted about our players...in a pre-season friendly. Why you would bother to diss Gabbidon, before he's kicked a ball in a competitive match for Rangers, i am not sure. He is NW's signing.

It's the team ethic that counts, not a misplaced pass by one individual.

Congratulations Rangers on another trophy win!

The major concern for me was the total inability to keep the ball for any length of time. In all three games I don't think we strung more than 5 passes together.

That then increases the pressure on the back four, which I have to admit is pretty poor. Connolly is so weak and never wins a header, Drogba will eat him for breakfast, Gabbidon is mentally lazy and switches off far to often. Hill is very slow in possession and I actually thought Orr played pretty well.

                              Concerned.
