  • QPR Home Gate Competition. Minimum £50 prize money - to possible £300+

I've been working on a competition idea that you may be interested in.

You get five free predictions on what our league home gates will be for the season (19 games). These same predictions will last the whole season. Every home game, your five predictions will be measured against the official attendance.

Whatever difference there is between the two sets of figures, whether above or below, will earn points if you're close enough. Each game, whoever is nearest to the official attendance figure gets 25 pts. There are 14 scoring opportunities for points. Joint positions get total points, not shared.

For example, the attendance for one game is 17,000. You and someone else predict 17,050 and 16,950 among your five entries.

You're both 50pts out, but also the closest. You both earn 25pts each, and so on.

    Nearest/ joint nearest 1st - 25pts

    Nearest/ joint nearest 2nd - 20pts

    Nearest/ joint nearest 3rd - 15pts

    Nearest/ joint nearest 4th - 12pts

    Nearest/ joint nearest 5th - 10pts

    Nearest/ joint nearest 6th - 9pts

    Nearest/ joint nearest 7th - 8pts

    Nearest/ joint nearest 8th - 7pts

    Nearest/ joint nearest 9th - 6pts

    Nearest/ joint nearest 10th - 5pts

    Nearest/ joint nearest 11th - 4pts

    Nearest/ joint nearest 12th - 3pts

    Nearest/ joint nearest 13th - 2pts

    Nearest/ joint nearest 14th - 1pt

The points you score anywhere among your five predictions will be added together and accumulated over the whole season. The highest total wins. There will be a tiebreaker for people with equal points (see rule 2). After each game, I will post a pdf file (and an excel worksheet, for those with MS Office) detailing results, points accumulated and overall placings.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's a free competition. As some of you may know, the website I promote (www.jobreality.com) is my own. It's where hopefully one day, career seekers will come and read up on what working people think about their jobs, good points, bad points etc. These comments will be very important for young people leaving school, looking for their first jobs.

I will add £5 to the minimum £50 prize fund for each member who posts their job details on the website. So if 50 people add their jobs, I will add £250 (maximum) more to the prize fund. You don't have to disclose your income if you don't want to and your job report will be anonymous. There is no obligation at all to get involved with submitting your job.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STRATEGIES - There are certain games that will be sellouts. There will be some that could be surprisingly low. You could spread your selections, or go for a selected band to catch particular games and maybe take the top five point placings. Pot luck or crafty deliberations?

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    OTHER RULES

    1) To enter the competition, see the first example post below this one. First, enter a tiebreak number of how many premier league points you think we will achieve this season. (In the event of joint positions at the end of the season, nearest tiebreak predictions will come into account). Then underneath on seperate lines, add five predictions of what you think will be nearest to our home gates this season. Please set out as shown in the test post, to make it easier for me to enter up all these details into a spreadsheet.

    2) Unfortunately, as it's a free competition, I can only accept one entry from each household, so please liase with other members of your family before submitting any choices. There is a reluctant reason for this.

I know for example, that swanleyhoop has a family of supporters, but I don't want to get into an MB argument with other posters complaining that so and so has three or four entries, and that they might be making family numbers up in order to have more free entries.

    3) Certain administrators will be monitoring IP addresses, and entrants with multiple free entries will have to be disqualified. All people entering must be registered, or sign up with WATRB's.

    4) However, everyone can have further sets of predictions if they want to, but extra entries will cost £5, and all monies will be added to the prize fund. Paid entries can come from the same household with no problem of being classed as duplicate IP addresses. So WATRB username pete will have five free entries as pete, and his paid set will be known as pete1, but will be classed as a seperate entry. You can have as many paid entries as you like.

You will need a paypal account to send this money to me, stevebetts2000@yahoo.co.uk Write your WATRB username in the paypal comments box, along with your tiebreak number and five predictions.

    5) To start with, there will be one prize of £50. If enough other money comes in, I would like to get to a position where there would be five prizes of £125, £75, £50, £25, £25. Any other money after that will added to first prize.

    6) There is no closing date for this competition, but obviously the earlier you take part, the more points you can accumulate. All entries must be received before Friday 12th midnight, to count the Bolton game in. I need the saturday morning to enter up all your predictions.

    7) You can enter your predictions right now, but can edit and change them anytime up until the closing date for the first match. Please don't abuse the website or the competition. It's going to be a lot of time and money for me to run it.

    8) Free entries and extra paid entries need to be registered up to the midnight before any home game to count it in. Any entries received the day of the match will not count for that game.

    9) To bump up the prize money from the £50 minimum first prize, go to http://jobreality.com/jobReport.php and add your job details. You don't have to enter all your job in one go. Just do a few lines and save. Please don't think your job is not worth talking about. It will be to someone else, especially school leavers. Pass on your experiences.

Your report is anonymous as far as anybody else is concerned. As I see the finished jobs coming in, I will anounce the increase to the fund on the competition page.

Anyone having problems registering or logging in to the website, let me know.

Anything that's not clear, ask away. Thanks, hope you enjoy it. It's five free entries for all members here, what have you got to lose? Just add your selections, and all you have to do then, is check your progress whenever you like.

This is an example. Please do not space selections or enter commas for1000's, put tie breaker at the top. (I can copy and paste these directly into a spreadsheet). Apologies to Camb Hoops and G-QPR for suggesting a different format.

The tiebreaker is the number of prem points you think we will get all season. In the event of people tying for points places when the competition finishes, preference will go to those nearest our prem league total.
