  • the return of the xmas tree formation?

    ....................Kenny
    Orr........Hall............Gabbidon.......Hill
    ......Derry........Dyer.......Faurlin
    ..........Campbell.......Tarbs
    ...................Bothroyd

DJ and Tarbs to give us width when needed, with Dyer pushing on between them to fill the space inbetween?

Ideally we need 2 new 'bomb forward' type full backs to make it work, so maybe it won't work without replacing Orr and Hill, but they could surprise?

Tarbs is too young at 22 to be the focus of attention in the prem, it's just too much pressure when things are going wrong, needs to be just feel part of the team, and not the expected matchwinner. I hope experienced Dyer will help this.

Dont agree with this mate tbf. I do think hes too inexperienced for the role yes, but i dont think age matters, just look at what the likes of Rooney, Messi and Fabregas were doing at 22!

With regards the formation, quite like it tbf! Dyer i think will play slightly more advanced, maybe just in front of Derry & Faurlin and ready to bomb on and support the attack. Give us a fullback and maybe a midfielder in the Derry role as back up / competition for him and I think weve gotta decent side for a survival scrap!
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Not too bad a side although quite concerned about the lack of pace our full backs have.

I agree with PaulMason. We should keep our 4-2-3-1 with DJ and Taarabt or Dyer as widemen. Not a bad side at all. I just feel we need a left back. Hill looked bad yesterday and is very slow.

Just a bit puzzled why we should all scream for a goal poacher in the Clive Allen/ Gary Bannister tradition and then we appear to get one in the shape of Campbell - not saying he is as anything like as good as Allen or Bannister BTW before I get my head bitten off - then we immediately convert him into a right winger/ inside right. If that's what we want then why didn't we spend the money on Routs instead? Don't get me wrong, am delighted by DJ's signing but puzzled by the formation.

You are 100% correct sir and the unknown is will QPR FC kill DJ Campbell, just like we did Jamie Cureton, by playing him on the right.

Good post mate, agree totally. It would be mental to sign a PL striker and goalscorer only to instantly move him out of position! Imo, changing our formation to a traditional 4-4-2 with Jay and DJ up top could work really well, the old little and large strike force!

                Maybe a starting line-up of:

                -----Kenny--------

Orr--Hall--Gabbidon--Hill (although would rather see a new signing with some pace!)

                Dyer--Derry--Faurlin--Adel

                ----Bothroyd--DJ---

That's what I toy with, at least at home. I suppose the problem is we come back to Adel, and why a team has to be all about him or he can't play. Unless Adel learns to tackle and track back we are going to be very exposed because he is more of a "libero" as I think they are called rather than a midfield player, and they tend to do best with just one out and out striker.

Be v interesting to see how Warno plays it. Maybe we will be like some modern dance troupe - all very fluid with no one in very fixed positions except Bothroyd leading the line?

What about changing one of your attacking midfielders to striker

                    Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
                    And many more mistakes

Lets be honest boys (and girlz) we're gonna set up to stiffle other teams and win on the break.
we do not have the skill, energy levels, abiltiy or style of 75% of the other teams so we're gonna play the percentages.
it wont be pretty bujt if it keep us up then its job done

Formation will change to suit opposition..i mean really, would you have the same midfield against man utd and chel**** as you would against stoke?

                      what about shittu?..

Not bad ! I like the look of that, but will Dyer be the sort of player to play that deep? Could well sort out the problem with Adel though, that positions perfect for him.

Good points! I think it will be a very "fluid" side as you say, lots of roaming players, especially the forward 4 (ie Campbell, Bothroyd, Adel, Dyer). Tbh i think Neil has the know how to pull it off, I am pretty optimistic going forward for this year, only worry for me is defensively: can see Hill getting caught alot and also worry Derry may be slightly out of his depth. A signing each for these 2 positions and I''ll be alot mroe comfortable we'll be able to put up a good fight!
