A lot of stuff about him being sh*t on here.
I've never seen him play, and wouldn't know that much about him. A lot of people seem to "have a Southampton mate" who say he's no good. In League One.

He's a bit of a riddle, this bloke.
He seems to be considered "poor" in League One, and yet he was superb at Millwall in a higher league, and did really well in his spell at Blackpool - in the Premier League.

Scored only 3 in 34 games in League One for Saints.

Scored 8 in 18 for Millwall & Blackpool last season in the higher leagues.

Saints fans don't like him, apparently. But the view of Millwall & Blackpool fans, in higher leagues??

Maybe a very talented player who just lost his way at Southampton, and just didn't fit? But did really well with managers (Ian Holloway & Kenny Jacket) who gave him a chance at higher levels than Saints in div 3?
Maybe with the right manager and the confidence from what he did last season at Millwall and Blackpool, he might not be as "sh*t" as Saints fans would have us believe?
Warnock obviously rates him, and can see something. So does Sam Allardyce, if reports are true.

Like I said - I don't know because I haven't seen him enough, but it's just an alternative view on him.
"Trust In Warnock" - Don't just type it - Do It.

Seems he was used as an impact sub at Blackpool - whose fans seem to base their views on their own opinions.
Sadly we have lots that know players are turd even without seeing them in the hoops, just because some bloke told 'em so!

Agree, I've been equally puzzed. Before he was banned Amberico posted a link to a Blackpool website that showed them virtually slitting their wrists at the prospect of losing him to us. Yet it is pretty shocking if he couldn't get into a League One side, and this was apparently on grounds of ability, not just attitude. Yet like you do find it curious that so many people on here have seen so much of him that they can almost offer a scout's report about him. Warno's judgement is not infalible (as we saw with Leon Clarke) and I wonder if we would be better off seeing if Routs/ Newcastle reduce their demands. BUT if he does sign I'm very happy to give him a chance. We signed a winger before who had "only" been playing for Blackpool. Name of Trevor Sinclair. He turned out OK.

I saw him play a couple of times at Southampton.

My personal choice for that position would be Gradel by a country mile. Then Matt Phillips followed by Routledge.

Reading some Southampton threads,Puncheon has been kept out of their team by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain the young lad allegedly being courted by Arsenal and for whom Southampton want £12m.
