two class right backs, loved both, but Clement by a mile, scored some cracking goals, one at home to Villa ranks as one of the best I've seen
I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross
I must be guided without a stumble
Into the arms I love the most

                Clement a better defender.
I was at the school end once and he got sent off for nutting someone.
Both would strengthen our team now.

Clement by a clear 8 furlongs. He had a devastating right foot shot on him - popped up and scored many winning goals in the mid 70's. Sadly missed.

Him and Gillard were a mighty pair of full backs.

Most underrated player of all time for me Bardsley fantastic right back and a wonderful player, but i would have to agree, and JUST give it to Clement. Very close though.

Now my father who will soon start watching QPR for his 73rd season and certainly knows his full backs if he saw one, would agree with the original poster and that Bardsley would just shade it over Clement. However, saying that both players were severely underrated in their time and to think that Bardsley was limited to one England cap because of the presence of Lee Dixon speaks volumes of the football knowledge of Graham Taylor. As for the best left back, Clive Wilson was far superior to Ian Gillard. In fact I would even argue to say that the defence of the early nineties side of Bardsley, McDonald, Parker and Wilson, if swapped with the defence of the 76 side would have improved it. Then just add Les Ferdinand to replace Don Givens and that team would have run away with the championship.

I would have Gillard over Wilson.
                            Gillard quick strong tall
Wilson was often exposed in the air.

Clement and Gillard were heavy duty both defending and attacking.

Then there is Jim Langley... still quick when he came to us aged 73
