Personally I'm slightly puzzled by all these centre backs signings. Fair enough if we were getting someone a class above (eg Upson) but we will now have about nine players competing for two slots all of roughly equal quality. If we have no budget I would hope Warno will try a swop deal with someone to bring in a couple of fullbacks and a winger.

Fitz Hall
Matthew Connolly
Kaspars Gorkss
Danny Shittu
Peter Ramage
Danny Gabbidon

Seems like we will be playing the Stoke way four centre backs, Ramage, Orr can play r/b Connolly ,Hill play l/b...

I like the look of Perone, the Youtube video posted last week shows that he is very capable and reads the game very well. He also uses the ball well. I believe he can cover DM but he has been brought in to compete with Hall, Gorkks & Gabbidon for CB slots. Connolly will be used as a Full back or cover imo, Ramage and Shittu will only be used if necessary.

Think connolly will be used as a utility player. can see him being a defensive midfielder this season. Tbh I think that's his best position. Not physical enough for a centre back, good on the ball, strong in the challenge. Think when fit Hall and gabbidon first choice. We need to sign fullbacks really. Hill should be a centre back, looks a bloody good player there. Him and Orr to slow for prem full backs.

My thinking on the additional Centre Back is basically that neither Kaspars Gorkks or Matthew Connolly will cut it at centre half in the Prem and Fitz Hall will spend a lot of time injured as usual.

Connolly has never lived up to potential and I see him as cover at full back next season. Gorkks has been a good player for us but even his most avid fan would have to admit that he is too slow and clumsy to deal with most strikers in the top flight.

Add in to this the fact that we only have Shaun Derry in the holding midfield slot, I reckon that Warnock will be looking to utilise one of these centre backs as a midfield enforcer.

Few points.

I was underwhelmed by Connolly in midfield. He either has to be a defender or if not good enough, shipped out. If Gorks isn't considered good enough - I actually think a couple of posters have been a tad harsh about him - then he should also go.

Hammer was saying Gabiddon roasted alive at left back but OK centre back.

To repeat, we desperately need reinforcements in other areas and if we have no money we should try to use some of these centre backs as bait to get other players. Who knows, one or two might even have some resale value.
