Squad Numbers: Are they important to you?

I enjoyed the debate we had on squad numbers last year and I've seen a thread about giving Adel the number 10 shirt but are squad numbers important to you?

I'm not yet 30, so I don't feel that I come from a generation where I can say that I feel that a particular number is significant to QPR. Arguably when Ferdinand wore the number 9 shirt it was but we've had a lot of duff players over the years who have since worn that number and therefore taken away some of the significane of it (cue a number of responses listing good number nine players like Blackstock and Helguson).

Growing up I've seen the likes of Bryan Robson, Cantona, Beckham and Ronaldo all wear the number 7 shirt for Manchester United. It's become the shirt that you want to wear if you sign for them. Do we have something similar? Do current generation of players understand the significance of say the number 10 shirt at QPR?

Maybe it's Monday morning but I'm confused with what you are saying. We haven't had a legend in 10 years or have?

IMO shirt numbers are not of any particular importance. Just because you have a certain number on your back does not mean you're gonna play better so you should take the number you get and just play with it.

I totally agree which is why I'm wondering why some find the number thing significant. It must be an honour if you play for one of the big teams as they have a history of giving only certain players certain numbers but we've had years of duff players wearing certain numbers so surely there is no significance to the players?

It may matter to some players as you said like of you joined man u and got the number 7. However why give someone like Taarabt the number 10 shirt when he has no knowledge of the history of our club? It would just be a number to him.
