    The only point being made is that if you spend the first 18 years of your life in France, inevitably many Gallic (def. pertaining to the French or France) characteristics are going to influence and rub off on you during those formative years.

    No biggie.

              To the poster getting very intellectual at the bootom of the first page...I will extend my argument.

              I have read L'Etranger, did it for French A level. (Also did La Peste at university.)
              The North Africans under French influence were very different all those years ago; nowadays, those communities are far more established in France and many of them are very French in their ways, even though they remain fiercely proud of their roots. You can't compare them with the characters in L'Etranger at all.
              It's like comparing the first Afro-Caribbean immigrants who came to Britain on the Windrush, to a modern day descendant of those people who regard themselves as very British/English and are totally immersed in the multicultural British culture we have in Britain today.
