  • Chris Eagles

Have we been linked with him? Must be one among the hundreds I missed. Personally I think he is precisely the kind of player that those of us who consider ourselves realistic fans might have expected to sign - not ludicrously expensive but clearly talented with the potential to step up to the Premier League. Five signings of the quality of Eagles and I would have been pretty confident about staying up but already it sounds wildly unrealistic to think in terms of players like him. Shame.

    Clarets hope for Eagles stay
Eddie Howe is determined to retain the services of key man Chris Eagles after Everton, QPR and Swansea were linked to the Burnley star.

The Clarets have already allowed three players to head for the exits this summer - with Chris Iwelumo offloaded to Watford, Graham Alexander released and Clarke Carlisle loaned to Preston.

Howe is reluctant to sanction any more departures and has no intention of parting with those players he considers to be integral to the club's future.

That means in-demand winger Eagles will be staying at Turf Moor.

The former Manchester United forward has been linked with several Premier League clubs, with Queens Park Rangers, Everton and Swansea all reported to be keen.

Howe insists Eagles is going nowhere, though, and has also played down speculation suggesting Portsmouth have lodged a bid for fit-again striker Martin Paterson.

"There's always people circling, but there is no new news regarding any of our players," he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

"I've said all along I want to keep the squad together, keep our best players, and hopefully we can do that and bring in some new ones the other way."

I recently had an ankle operation at St Albans hospital just over 3 weeks ago and funnily enough Chris Eagles mum was the nurse looking after me. She asked about my problems and I said it was football and she mentioned she was his mum. She said Chris would love to play back in the Premiership (sorry can't say anymore as I think it's unfair incase it causes problems). She thinks he'll stay up North though as he's recently married his Northern girlfriend and doubts she will want to live down South. She also said his younger brother has just moved up there with him now too as he's recently signed for Burnley.

I really rate Eagles and he's 10x's better than Routledge. Far too good for the Championship and one I'd love to see in a hoops shirt but it won't happen.

Unless he's on a free or available for loan then NO chance!
