Now we're in the Premier league do transfers take longer to set up, barter, complete. Maybe not so much with the Clubs (as we'd allegedly agreed fees with Watford, Peterborough, Blackpool, Tottenham for certain targets) but more with the Players themselves over wages and personal details.
For example -
Merchandising rights and %ages. I doubt we've had to consider this much before.
Wages reductions should we be relegated during a players contract. ie. "QPR go down, so does your weekly wage sunshine !"
Buyout clauses to protect the players against the above in the event of a relegation.
If so, that would explain the time it takes comlete a deal, although not the lack of real investment and penny pinching.
