Promotion costed sh1tloads due to legal stuff and f@ck ups in contracts signed by You know who (bonuses + some players' wages went through the roof thanks to promotion) .

Anyone entering into litigation in the last ten years or so, whether the most modest of personal injury claims or a potentially multi million pound action such as the Faurlin enquiry does so in the knowledge that the costs are considerable and invariably in litigation, the rule remains the same = the loser pays.

Yes we paid a fine but just how much of the FA's legal bill fell to be paid by the Club. The most likely costs award in a case like this would be on an issue based nature - we lost on 2 counts if I recall and I would expect we were ordered to pay the costs of those two charges. We successfully defeated the remaining heads of claim and I expect the FA were ordered to pay those. I don't know this for a fact in this case but it would be the usual outcome. The set off between what the two parties owe each other should not leave a massive shortfall.

Beyond that, no one embarks upon this kind of litigation without securing funding and protection against the costs of losing. That means you are insured against the risk of losing and being required to pay your opponents legal costs - once, if you lose, the amount of costs is determined, the insurer pays the bill. The cost to you is the premium payable on that policy, the cost of which is determined prior to securing the funding and is dependent upon numerous factors, including the risks attached and the liklihood of losing.

Please don't think the cost of the legal bill for the Faurlin saga has anything to do with the lack of transfer funds. The fine itself, well that's a different matter but I doubt that is a major factor either.

T&C simply don't want to part with their hard earned to give the fans a team which can thrive in the EPL.
