Stoke spent a lot of money on Beattie and Kitson and both players flopped whereas the Ricardo Fuller who was already at the club was a fantastic success in their first year in the Premiership.

It's not about how much money you spend but its about who you buy, how they gel with the players already at the club and how they are managed. I don't remember anybody ever saying that Matt Jarvis was a success in the Championship but has become a very good player in the Premiership. There's no reason to say that some of our squad who have yet to shine in the Championship can't and won't in the Premiership.

Harsh on Beattie. He did well for Stoke to be fair before he fell out with Pulis.

Sir Pie I think you are being disengenuous, and that is unlike you as I always enjoy your posts. Of course big transfer fee does not guarantee you've bought a good player. But you must appreciate that a transfer budget of £1.25m (minus the sale of Leigertwood and far more significantly in all likelyhood Adel) for the Prem League is a pitance. It wd be small for the Championship!

Warnock said in an interview a couple of weeks ago that last time he was in the Premiership he only spent £2.5m, and that this time he would need to spend considerably more. Yet it transpires his budget in transfers (I accept wages/ signing on fees are significant) will, according to the horses mouth, now be a max of only £1.25m. And this after the heart of the team will in all probably have been ripped out in the shape of Tabs, for whom the manager does not expect to receive any funds.

As you know I'm not a complete moaner. The acquisition of Bothroyd was a fantastic bit of business and far better value than CMS and probably Graham too. If pay as you play figures such as Dyer come off, that will also look like a masterstroke. Ditto the purchase of DJ (assuming it comes off). So I'm not asking the board to throw money around to "make a statement" (whatever that means). But skilled though Warnock is he can't work miracles. If we keep Tabs and acquire DJ plus bring in people like Naughton on loan and Upson on a free, we stand a sporting chance of staying up; but if Tabs goes and nothing is spent on a replacement then can you really say hand on heart you think we will stay up? Or that the board are giving Warnock the tools he needs?

I cannot understand why people see FREE as spending nothing.

In most cases players signed as free are out of contract or released by their club therefore no transfer fee is involved between clubs.

But the Player gets the "fee" - remember Sol Campbell he went for FREE form Spurs - but Arsenal gave him £12m to sign.

Jay Bothroyd was FREE to leave Cardiff but you can bet he got a large signing on fee as well as wages.

Maybe I was a little unfair on Beattie but as a club you'd be disappointed with how the situation panned out meaning that Beattie could only make 16 appearances. None of us will every really know the true ins and outs of what happens (simply its one persons word against another) but when its clear who the boss is and he has put faith in you by signing you and sticking you in the first team you would hope that some of that faith would be repaid. We all work with people we don't get on with but that doesn't mean we can do and say as we please and #### off the boss especially in such a public domain.

Kitson did flop though as he failed to score whilst at the club. At the same time a player who was probably not in most people's starting XI and expecting not to play and do as well as the Kitson/Beattie partnership flourished. 11 goals for Fuller was an extremely good return. As I said its easy at this time of year to write people off but players likes Jarvis, Vaughan even Taylor-Fletcher weren't expected to do as well as they did.

Who's to say that is truly all we've got? I learnt very quickly not to believe Warnock when it comes to him speaking to the media. For all we know is that he's saying he's only got £1.25m so not to be held to ransom on an incoming player.

As bbedford has mentioned the likes of Bothroyd and Dyer are potentially costing us millions. If the Sky Andrew contract is correct then JB will earn a £1.3m basic salary (£25,000 pw) along with £2500 per match appearance fee, another £2500 bonus fee for appearing in the match day squad (oh yes we're supposedly paying him double bubble for appearing), £250,000 for every season QPR are in the Premiership and £130,000 per annum for his agent. This very quickly equates to big bucks. Potentially if he plays all 38 matches and at least 1 League Cup and 1 FA Cup match he could earn £5000 per each match (or £2m for those 40 games), add in his fee plus agent fee and basic salary and you are looking at JB costing the club:

                £2m (appearances)
                £1.3m (salary)
                £250k (fee)
                £130K (agent)
                TOTAL: £3.68m for next season

There may have been no transfer fee but if things figures are correct and with GP in charge and the calibre of the player we've signed it is quite likely to be true it will potentially cost QPR £3.68m next year for one player. Of course if he gets injured then he won't get that £5000 per match but his fee, the agent's and the salary will still apply meaning that Bothroyd will cost the club £33,000 a week. If true FB and BE can't be accused of not giving NW the money and if true no wonder NW might say he has no money left.

All good points. I fully accept there is no such thing as a free transfer, particulary on Premiership wages, a point I have been making myself over recent weeks to some of our more critical fans (eg over the "free" transfer of Bullard, now seemingly dead in the water, was actually going to cost £2m a year - hardly "free"). However, if we do lose Tabs who single handedly turned a mid-ranking Championship side into Champions, and none of that money is ploughed back into the playing staff, do you honestly think that is enough of a budget to stay up? This is the question you have not answered. I take your point that Warno often plays games in interviews, but I think it is now obvious to all but the most wide-eyed optimist that very little new money is giong to be made available.

I accept overall the owners have spent significant amounts - but sadly owing to their triger-happy ways, manager after manager has brought in his own favourites without clearing out the dead wood. This is what is now crippling the club. The sadness is it will be Warno who will almost certainly end up carrying the can.
