if bothroyd doesnt drop his wage demands then thats yet another striker we have missed out on. be interesting to see other strikers warmock is interested in as his list must be getting smaller every time the board dont come up with the readies!

Can you ask your source if he ever played for Napoli as Peter couldn't get an answer off of him?
Oh, and tell him nice one on Vine, Dave and Legs contracts with the promo clauses..... Any chance he can get Benito Carbone to sign this summer and nearly break another club.
So in summary --- light showersI need some time in the sunshine, I gotta slow it right down.

in defence of bothroyd, he has been on huge money from day one. Might sound like rubbish to you lot but I know the grandad of his son very well and was chatting with him only last saturday in my local.
He said he thinks he is going Everton for starters, but also said he hasn;t spoke to him this summer so I'm guessing that is just his hunch.
On the wages side of things, he was on 20,000 when he was a youngster at Arsenal, and they loved him there. Yet after he threw down his shirt after being subbed in a game, he was farmed out. His Youth Team/ Reserve Manager at the time, (can't remember the name) apparently despised him and insisted Wenger got rid.
So he went to Coventry I believe for fairly big money and almost doubled his wages to around the 40k mark and according to his son's Grandad every move since his wages haven't dropped once. So personally don't think it is him being greedy, but he has been on huge wages since a young age, and to agree with Indiana, I believe the agent is to blame

Also Arsenal are notoriously miserly in the salaries they pay their Academy and second year pro's. Everything is front loaded to the first team squad with the Academy lads on small sums but big bonuses for breaking in the first team. Until 18 months ago, Jack Wilshere was on around £12k a week. Again, no way Bothroyd would have been on £20k as a 2nd year pro at Highbury at the point he left. No idea what Coventry and Charlton paid him but again, would not have gone over £25k a week. Outside the top 6 or 7 clubs, salaries are nowhere near as high as some believe - bigger signing on fees tend to be paid to lesser the ongoing residual salary costs (few exceptions, Bolton with Djorkaeff, Okocha and Hierro; Wigan with Heskey, West Ham when they went completely loopy loo with the Icelandic banks money - Pompey the same). Charlton and Coventry would not be big payers.
Massive pinch of salt req'd IMO. Bothroyd still talking with us so we can't be that bad!Last edited by Guest; 24-06-2011, 10:39 AM.
