  • The Modern day footballer

I have read the stick Taarabt is getting, I am not going to say if he deserves it or not, but I would like to throw my thoughts into it.

We are dealing with a modern day footballer. He doesn't support QPR like us, and to be honest he probably doesn't give a monkeys about the fans or what we think. Like any pro he wants to further his career, level wise and money wise. He doesn't support QPR so why should he feel attached to the club? YES there is proper ways to get a move, not like what he is doing at the moment talking to papers etc, but to be fair to the boy he is trying to do what is best for him finacially and the level he wants to be playing at. If you thought you was under paid at work or not furthering your career, and another big company would offer you more would you want a move?

Now I am not defending him, as he should let his footy do the talking for a move, but Adel, like all flair players need to be centre of attention, and I think his comments are attention seeking. "look at me, im on the big stage now" "chelsea, man u, take notice of me please" etc etc.

Football is no longer in the 80's 90's where players get testimonials for being at a club for 10 years. In this day and age, the modern footballer is money comes first! Look at last season, Wayne Rooney held Man U to ransom for a bumper pay rise, Luka Modric is doing it at the moment to Spurs, the list goes on.

If Adel goes I would be gutted because at the moment he is our only hope in the prem, because as he said (which he shouldn't of) with our current squad it will be a long long season for us. If he stays, he needs to knuckle down and prove footballing wise he deserves the chance to grace Europes Elite.

1 thing I forgot to mention about him, if he does go he will go with my full blessing. I will be gutted as I said, but I wouldn't hold anything against him as he has given me personally some entertainment I haven't seen since the likes of Sir Les, Sinclair, and Wegerle. I hope he doesn't move to a big english team, I think a big Spanish or Italian team would suit him better, can somehow see him doing well at Milan, don't know why just can see him there. Also is it true we turnt down 10m from Lazio? cheers.

I truly believe that not a single top 6 club would buy him this summer or even put a bid in. Charlie Adam was rated like Adel this time last year and teams wanted to see how he would play in the PL before going for him. Same with Adel, he's untested against world class defences so his game must change and he has to adapt to that, depending on how well he does will decide where he goes from us. He will stay put for at least 6 months

People shouldnt be so shocked, a, rumours about his future were always going to be around this summer, and b, its not the 1st time we have been down this road with Adel.. He sometimes comments when he shouldnt but we all know he aint gonna be with this club forever..

He is using QPR as a step to getting to the top, were he feels he should be, and is arguable correct too..

And that is where he is going wrong and is being very poorly advised.

He has already pi$$ed off Newcastle fans on twitter before even joining them by saying he sees them as a good stepping stone to an even bigger club.

Bottom line - he's undoubtedly a brilliant footballer but his rapidly increasing ego/attitude could prove his downfall.

Yes its a different era of course, but the likes of Pele, Bobby Moore, Beckenbaur, Bobby Charlton etc showed you can be a genius footballer AND have humility and be a gentleman too. Those are virtues that anyone can aspire to, no matter what times you live in.

To bring the thread back on-topic, this article kind of illustrates my point:
