  • DJ no to QPR

Extract from a larger piece about West Ham in the Standard, mentioning that Campbell has turned us down.

Shows the difficulty of attracting players to our club and shows the emptiness of the "ffs just sign them" argument:

Bolton left-back Ricardo Gardner remains another target for West Ham but their search for a striker to replace Ba has so far proved unfruitful with neither Everton's Yakubu nor Blackpool's DJ Campbell, who has also turned down a move to Queens Park Rangers, looking likely to arrive.

That line must come from people who regularly play Football Manager2011 on a laptop.
You can't just start again in real life, and restart the game when you don't get what you want.

We can't just throw money at these players. They often want to play on "The Big Stage". And compared to QPR, the likes of Everton, Villa, Sunderland are a bigger stage.
It is not just about money.

Paper talk. Read two different stories about Ricardo Gardner yesterday one that he failed a medical at West Ham another that he had decided to stay at Bolton. If we had signed all the players we have ben linked with we would have more players than ST holders.

My point is it certainly has no less credence than the reports of Walk or Pete that Campbell is still a hot target for us.

And Stilts: I agree entirely with your comments.

On the topic of players coming, I bumped into Routledge and Vine at Ascot races Thursday and Routledge said he is waiting for QPR to make a move for him. Obviously a random half cut wearing an orange tie is the last person he's going to tell too much to but just seems abit funny that we havent made an approach yet!

I agree with you. Nobody has got a clue anyway. The DJ Campbell turning us down part in that article you quoted, was just something they added to spice it up a bit IMO.

Said this about DJ 2 weeks ago.

In mixed minds. Loves Rangers but exact words were 'don't know if I need the hassle'

I'm presuming he meant people wanting tickets etc. His mum still lives in East Acton so always in the area but maybe detrimental to his career being around old friends / haunts.

                      Never say never though.

The approach I would take if I were manager would be:

"Bothroyd/DJ/Maynard/CMS (delete as appropriate) if you want to drive home in your Baby Bentley, and sit on your expensive red suede sofa on a saturday night, sipping on a cold Bacardi Breezer in front of Match of the Day, and watch the odd fleeting image of you wearing a big coat and a stupid woolly hat, whilst you freeze your b*llox off on a bench at Anfield or Goodison, then you go for it, son".
"However young man.. and f*cking look at me and take those stupid f*cking headphones off when I'm talking to you.... IF you want to be my main man, and see yourself parading around on MoTD banging goals in, and taking the applause of the crowds in the most viewed league in the world, in the best city in the world... then sign here, d*ckhead."

Which probably explains why I'm not a manager, and never will be.
Because these boys would rather wear a coat of a bigger club and earn an extra 10k per week, than wear a number 9 QPR shirt and actually start football games.
No matter how much they bang on about money not being a motive, and how playing regular football is.
Those sofas and Bentleys don't come cheap.

                          Cynical, I know.

Ric is actually spot on. The bloke is rangers mad.

He couldn't stop talking about the club and there was genuine passion for the r's.

Good bloke and if we can't sign him then quite sad really. I do think there is an issue at boardroom level otherwise he would be a QPR player imo.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!
